Can someone tell me how to stop Cura from skipping layers?

What version are you running? Version 5.8 has fixed a problem that can cause layers to be skipped in some cases.

If you could share the Cura project file for it (.3mf, get it set up in Cura then go to File > Save Project) we could also see if there's anything that seems wrong.

Although what does strike me is that the part on the right seems to have been added after slicing (the skirt doesn't account for it) - that's not a gcode file where you spliced one at the end to add another bit is it?

I'm currently running Version 5.7.

The piece on the right has been there the whole time and hasn't been added separately.

I'm not sure why the skirt is shaped like that because when I downloaded the file it was all one piece, and as far as I know it still is one piece.

I also haven't had my printer for that long and I don't have that much experience so it might just be that I set up the file wrong.

I don't think that I did but that is a possibility.

Your model is bad. There are no faces on the inside whatsoever:

(The polka dots are how Cura shows areas like that)

It means Cura might know where a part of the model starts, but has no idea where it ends, and since it can't do an infinite piece it just doesn't slice it.

There are some online STL repair tools available (just search for "STL repair") or if you're running Windows, Microsoft's "3D Builder" app is actually really good at fixing broken models (as well as just being pretty great in general at the stuff it can do) - once you open the model and select the units it's in, there should be a notification at the bottom right saying it's broken and offering to fix it.

This file, I can say with 100% certainty, contains three separate bodies. By the looks of it they're designed to fit inside one another so it can be extended/retracted. I'm guessing the skirt didn't extend to the last bit because it wasn't able to successfully slice pieces of it anywhere near the ground.

I just ran it through a stl repair tool twice and it still looks like this.

You should never need to run it through twice. If once doesn't fix it, the second won't either.

But at least with a valid model, we have a better starting point. By the looks of it, the walls are just too thin to be printed by default. Here's what it looks like with the default settings, a sight I'm sure you've seen a million times by now:

    image.thumb.png.304ac9335c6212b6db681a105ea18b91.png

I'm going to assume you're using a (fairly standard) 0.4mm nozzle. The guideline for line width is 60-150% of your nozzle diameter, so you should set Walls > Minimum Wall Line Width to 0.24mm:

    image.thumb.png.2a73361392306b6b893d2ece0042a866.png

Pretty good, but there's still a couple of gaps (look at the bottom of the blade section). We can force Cura to print walls thinner than the minimum line width by turning on Walls > Print Thin Walls:

    That's better.

One warning with turning on Print Thin Walls is that dimensional accuracy may be affected (that is to say, bits that it has to use that on might be slightly bigger than intended). With a model like this that means there's a potential for the pieces not to fit together as they seem to be designed to do, but about the only way to find out is to try.

Ok thank you I'll try that now.
