I am using Cura on a Fedora 40 installation.

When starting Cura (5.4.0) all is fine and Cura is properly started, but loading the first object takes about 2-3minutes till the object gets visible in the virtual printer view. While this time Cura is furthermore responsive.

Cura is not consuming a lot of CPU time within this time range. Loading objects afterwards are shown immediately. Using a more recent version of Cura (AppImage) has exactly the same behavior.

I have deleted all my preferences (~/.local/share/cura) without a positive effect.

The behavior is reappearing at every start of Cura since several weeks.

Has anybody an idea what is going wrong here?

Regards Rainer

Assuming your models aren't too big (in file size - I've got a half decent rig and an STL > 100MB still takes at least a minute to load) this is a bug which is known but the exact cause is yet to be pinned down AFAIK (I tend not to go near the Cura GitHub repo much). A workaround which seems to work (no pun intended) for most people is to disable the built in "USB Printing" plugin - open Marketplace at the top right, click the gear icon at the top right of that window, scroll down until you find "USB Printing" and click Disable.

Perfect, this works perfect for me. Thanks a lot.
