Material Station with S7 Printer

Hello everyone,

I have a question for the people here that have the material station. I am wondering if this is normal or a problem with mine.

Every time a print is finished and the printer head is waiting for the filament to cool so that it can retract it from the printer cor, the rolls of the spool is working during this whole time.

Since this takes a minute or two to cool and then retract the filament, the rolls grind for this time on the spool until the filament has been retraced  from the printer core. Then the rolls stop.

I bought a S7 printer with the material station almost a year now and for as long as I can remember it has always worked this way.

I thought in the beginning that maybe this was normal but I am starting to see some signs of wear on the rolls. If this is normal then same time next year I will need to change all the rolls on the material station. Is this really the way it should work or is there some synchronization problem between the printer feeder and the material station? It works well for all the rest, just this case that seems a bit weird.

    Hello Dustin,

Thank you for your replay. I already opened a ticket but it has been a week now and no answer yet. Not what I was expecting when you pay so much for a printer 😒. I was just hopping to get feedback from other material station owners to see if this is also the case.

Can you please share your ticket number so I can find out why this has happened?

Does anyone know of a hotline or an email where I can ask about my case status? It is going to be two weeks tomorrow and the only response I have so fare is the automated email saying someone will be in contact soon 😒

Sorry for the delays on this, looks like there was some communication issues internally.

Hello Dustin thanks again for your response, yeah it seems so. I ended up calling the Netherlands Office and finally got an email but they ended up not addressing the cause of this problem. I had a couple of questions concerning the problem and none where answered. They just pushed the problem to a reseller to change the rewinder when I clearly stated that they don´t need to be changed yet. I was expecting more in terms of support from a band like Ultimaker. 😌

    TavaresR,

I have an S7 with material station. Firmware of the S7 is 8.3.1. I do not experience the phenomenon you describe. I print via network using Cura 5.8.0.

    FWIW (in no particular order):

    - You do not mention if rolls in all 6 slots are continually running. If not, is it possible to

go through the unload/load process via the touchscreen and try different slots?

    - Is your firmware up to date?

    - Are all cables between the S7 and material station fully seated?

    - Remove cables and inspect contacts/receptacles for anything oddly.

    - When the spool is loaded, is it recognizing the NFC label?

    Hello NBD3D,

I was suspecting this to not be normal. Problem is as long as I can remember, the material station has worked like this from day one (November 2023). It works perfectly for everything else. It is just this case when the print finishes and the print core is in standby position (front left or right depending on the print core active) waiting to cool.

    - I was running 8.3.1 two weeks ago but since it is not a stable release, I went back to 8.3.0 to make sure

    - the only rolls that work are the rolls of the current spool loaded on the printer head. When I use both print heads it does the exactly the same thing but when the other print core is in waiting position and cooling down. then the rolls of the spool loaded in print core two runs while it is still cooling down.

-yes firmware is up to date, the printer is always connected to the internet and is set to update automatically with stable version

-All the cables are connected in the right spot and seated all the way

-Just checked now all the pins are in good condition

-the NFC is working correctly, never had a spool not recognized by the NFC reader

Its a shame you cant upload videos here or else I would upload the video I sent in my case request.

Not even including a video helped.
