Cura on Linux slow to slice and fails

I thought it was working and something changed, I tried removing plug ins I installed and tried older appimages but still happening

Your log file shows the USB printing plugin causing several errors during the slicing process and making Cura kill the CuraEngine process.

 

I gather from your other post that you tried disabling the USB printing plugin. Is this log file from before or after that? If it's from before, please delete the log file, load Cura, try and slice a couple of things to generate errors, then post that.

 

If it's from after you disabled the USB printing plugin (and restarted Cura, since it can't load/unload plugins on the fly) and the USB printing plugin is still causing problems, then... we need to try and figure out why it's still loading and causing problems 🙂

That was after I disabled and cleared the log.

I removed the software, deleted the settings folder /.local/share/cura, reinstalled it was still an issue.

I then wiped my Linux  partition and reinstalled Linux Mint 22, my /home was on separate partition and keep my data.and reinstalled cura and now it works.   I also setup TimeShift this time in case I need to roll back.

If that log file is from after you disabled the plugin and cleared the log file, then we got real problems here about the plugin not being disabled.

If you're removing and reinstalling, there's an issue. Only the AppImage files produced by UltiMaker are officially supported. If it's in your distribution's software centre, you're not getting an officially supported version. I know there's Snaps, Flatpaks and binary packages in some distros' repos (and maybe Flathub, never checked), but you should only use the AppImages produced by UltiMaker.

 

Also, I don't know why, but it also stores config files in ~/.config/cura, so you need to delete that folder too.

I've always preferred LMDE myself, but that's probably just because I hate Ubuntu 😉 🐧. Actually I run openSUSE Tumbleweed 🦎 myself (as well as a minimal Arch installation with LXQt which boots in about three seconds for if I just want to do something quickly) but in the couple of cases where I've had a say in someone switching from Windows to Linux, I've recommended LMDE.

Bear in mind that by default Timeshift won't include a /home partition (or the /home folder if it's not a separate partition) so if a software update breaks your system, you can roll that back without losing anything you've done since the last snapshot. But that also means that if your Cura config files somehow get messed up, there won't be snapshots of them.
