S5 Probundle - about 4 years old - firmware 8.3.1.0

Cura 5.8.0

Core1 - ASA

Core2 - Breakaway

Ever since I've had this printer it would purge both cores at the beginning of a print.   Now, it will still go through the motions for core1 BUT it doesnt heat up so, no extrusion.  while that's happening core2 will start heating up and when it's turn comes, it purges normally.  By the time core1 needs to prints it's heated up and will extrude, sometimes not very well.

a couple of weeks ago i printed PLA on core1 (nothing on core2) and it worked fine.
I cant imagine what happened that would cause core1 to start purging before it's ready?

I have to wonder:  are the commands that get the printer ready to print (like purging) generated in Cura?  or are those steps in the firmware for the machine?

Really.. seems like they used to once upon a time...   anyway....
I went back to PLA and it behaved normally.  Once this print is done I'll retry the ASA and see what happens.  It was weird to watch the temp chart just getting started to heat and have the printer kick off doing the purge....     when I went back to PLA it waited until the temp was up...

ok, I printed ASA today, it went OK.  The core temp increased as soon as the job started but didnt really get to full temp before the purge started. Still, it made it ok.
This time the job started with the cores empty. It kinda look like when I had the trouble before the core had previously used the same material and so it didnt need the time it took to load material from the station..   hmmm.....
