Posted · First layer holes are being filled in.

HI, I am printing a RC Plane in LW PLA.  There are 4 holes and a square cutout in the first layer, but cura 5.6 is filling these holes in.  There were also Gcodes provided, and I have confirmed that the Gcodes have holes in the first layer.   My settings have brim only on the outside ... is it Cura doing this or is it a faulty .stl file?

It looks like it's filling them with brim (Cura isn't always as good as it likes to think it is about doing "outside only") or support (this forum crushes images quality so the screenshot isn't clear).

If you could post the Cura project file (.3mf, in Cura get it set up then go to File > Save Project) we can have a look at it and see what it might be.

As I thought, for some reason Cura thinks those areas are outside the object and is adding a brim to them (same thing happening in 5.9) and none of the applicable settings that I can think of are changing that. You should probably submit a bug report about that.

Now, as for what to do about it, if none of the settings are fixing it?

Option 1: The "stuff it" approach - just print it as is and remove the extra brims with some tweezers or something when it's finished.

Option 2: The technical, manual approach - slice it as is, then edit the gcode produced to remove the unwanted brim areas. This does however fall under my "don't mess with gcode if you don't know what you're doing" rule. As I can't find a proper fix 😞 if you post a gcode file you want to print I can remove those parts of brim for you.
