Hello, I just got an Ultimaker 3 extended today second hand and I am very, VERY new to 3D printing. Cura seemed straightforward enough, but I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong when slicing or setting up my model to print because all that seems to come out are these little strings instead of the print. I don't know really if this is an issue in the settings for Cura (I left them at default but maybe I shouldn't have?), an issue with the tension or something along those lines with the nozzle or filament, or if its something wrong with the STL file itself.

Here's what i was trying to print, on the default settings in cura:

Again, I'm very new to this so any help would be appreciated!

I'd love to see a photo of the first layer just as it's half way done printing.

Also please post your project file.  In cura do "file" "save project" and post that file here.  It will contain your STL and how you placed it.  I'm concerned that this model doesn't have a lot of contact with the glass bed so you may need more brim than usual.  I want to see what you chose for support.  This model is a little difficult as it doesn't sit flat on the bed.  May I suggest the "cute octopus says hello" or squirtle as a cute animal first print.

Did you use gluestick?  These printers come with gluestick to put on the glass bed.

Did you do the manual leveling step?  You want good squish on that first layer so maybe turn the 3 screws an identical amount to move the bed up.  Maybe 1/4 turn?  I'd have to see your first layer.

Might also be useful to know what material it is, exactly. Different materials adhere differently to the build plate.

With PLA I personally never require a glue stick, while with TPU95A there's a 50/50 chance that my print will look the same as OP's if I don't use one.

Plate Adhesion is complicated. With a glass plate another thing to worry about is oil buildup on the glass from your fingers over time (over hundreds of prints).
