Hi,

Can someone guide me with menus of Ultimaker 3, i want to enable network and my LCD is dead,

I need to enable the network so i can print via CURA over network.

Wired network is fine.

I have figured out the first part that when i turn on the printer, i need to turn the  dial twice to reach "SYSTEM" and then press the dial button.

But after that I don't know how may dial turns to reach network.

If this is a wierd way to set the printer for network access is there any other saner method?

    Hi @Slashee_the_Cow appreciate your reply.

The printer is quite old possibly 6yrs + and way beyond warranty.
I needed a stop gap solution till the LED display arrives, I've not yet ordered it but eventually will have to. It might possibly take a week or 2 to reach me.

So was looking for solutions to help me keep the prints going.

@PrintingWizard UltiMaker support is usually pretty good. Even if it's way out of warranty maybe they can still guide you blindly to your goal 🙂 Can't hurt to ask.

Not sure exactly what printers all the regulars around here have (except for the ones I know don't have UltiMaker printers) so don't know if anyone around here has a better chance of giving you the secret combination than UM support.

phone/email support with ultimaker is free.  If your warranty ran out then the only thing not covered is parts if you decide to order some.  If you are in the USA fbrc8.com has the parts - they have every part whether listed on their web page or not.

I'll make a video of the screens...

Here you go - it's still processing but you should be able to watch any moment now.  You might have to crank up the volume to hear me and the sounds the menu makes.

many many thanks @gr5 thanks a ton for that amazing video... in hindsight i'm wondering once i get the secret combination... as @Slashee_the_Cow calls it... how  far can i go.. can i do all the tasks need to complete a print without the front panel + lcd combo.
Can i do the whole print pipeline  directly through the cura app over ethernet?

Well you don't need the display to change filament - you just lift that handle thing and slide out the old and in with the new filament.  You don't need the display to change nozzles but there is a danger it will want you to do a manual leveling if you switch print cores so I would avoid that as long as possible.

If you have electronics friends one of them can probably get a replacement part for under a dollar but they need to be an expert on debugging electronics.  Unless it's obvious what broke.

I see that the first item on the menu is

    DEV: Not connected

Does this item appear only when DEV mode is enabled?
In that case I will have to count 1 step less on the home screen.
Also you say that for manual leveling the display would be needed. The printer has been dormant for a quite a period of time, so manual leveling might be needed.
Is there a way to manual leveling done via cura?

    yes.  That's good news.

Not through cura, no.  Try not to worry about that but I can do a video of the procedure if needed.  Normally you get to choose when to manually level.  The machine does active levelling by default normally.  I'm not sure if you would have turned that off. The manual leveling accuracy lasts forever -- until you change a core then you lose it.

You can't select that first row with the dial.  So the very first time you boot, the dial is focused on nothing and one scroll down gets you the first item in the menu (not the DEV line).  If you go to a sub menu and come back I think you are now on the top row (the row below the DEV line).

So if it were me I would try an ethernet cable.  Connect to your network and see if that line pops up an IP address.  If it does you can ssh into the printer.  I'm not sure what you can do through that but you can do many things. There are two accounts:

    ultimaker/ultimaker

    and

    root/ultimaker

The first one launches a helpful program which I can send you information about to help you learn to do things like check the bed temp or send gcodes.  This is a difficult interface and you can't for example launch a print but there might be something useful in there.

You still haven't said if the display has obvious physical damage.  I'm surprised that the first line is visible.  Can you send a photo?

There seems to be some confusion, maybe i could have put in in a better way.

I meant to say that the first line on the lcd shown on the video that you provided is

    DEV: Not connected

So I'm wondering that since I've never enabled dev mode on my printer will that menu item still be present in my setup. And in case it doesn't appear, do i have to count 1 item less to reach the "SYSTEM" menu item.

You do not have to count 1 extra because it is not part of the steps you can scroll view.  It is display only.  Not selectable.

Hi, @gr5 Have tried this procedure mulitple times, but I haven't been able to find the secret combination yet to turn on either ethernet or wifi.

First off do we need to turn the wheel 2 clicks to get it to move one menu item up or down, and what is the direction of rotation to move it down, clockwise or anticlockwise.
Secondly I feel the "dev not connected" which you show in your video only appears if "Developer mode" is turned on. I doubt that I have ever turned on the developer mode in my printer, so I guess mine would default to the first item that is "Print" but I  have no way to know that.. it's just a wild guess.

Edit: I rewatched the video and it showed that you rotate clockwise to move down.. and i remember you saying on the video that you need to move 2 clicks on the wheel to move one step on the menu... Is that 2 clicks consistent ? ...
