Posted (edited) · UltiMaker S5: preheats both print cores even if only one is going to be used.

I've got PLA on one (1) and ABS on the other (2).

Every time I print only PLA I have to wait ABS print core to heat up before print starts.

Every time I print only ABS, PLA core is pre-heated as well.

I've disabled/enabled print cores in the configuration (the only option I know):

And the print correcly appears in digitalfactory only using one material, but that doesn't seem to affect the pre-heating step.

Where in the cura configuration I can tell that specific print won't need the core?

Slicer 5.9.0, firmware 9.0.0

AFAIK it's just a prerequisite for the active leveling.

I have wondered about this as well, and have found this

If I print a bucket load from one core, I usually put a BB core in the second slot without filament in the BB core for this very reason. The printer will not run with one core. I guess it adds too many edge cases in the softwareif one core can be missing.

We alternate print cores's use and usually ABS pieces suffers because of those cold-hot-cold-without-extrusions cycles, even with blob and extra brim.

Well I think it is what it is!

    Thank you for your replies.
