Posted · Cura 5.9.0 PLA+ Temp tower doesn't change temps

Hello.  Brand new to 3D printing, hoping someone can help me out.  I have a creality ender 6.  I am trying to get it to not be so stringy, and I am printing with a roll of pla+.  I printed the regular temp tower for pla before I realized it was pla+ and it did change the temp, but the print ended up failing.  I am trying to print the temp tower for PLA+ but the temp isn't changing and I can't find where / how to tell cura to change it.  Is there a video or page somewhere that yall can point me to?  I watched the video from an old version but I don't see the "TempFanTower" on 5.9.  I am using AutoTowersGenerator v2.7.2.

The tower is the model but it needs a little program called a "post-processor" to go through the gcode and add the temperature changes at the correct points in the print.

With the model loaded - go to "Extensions | Post Process | Modify Gcode" and then "Add a script".  As you scroll down through the list you should come to "Temperature Tower".  It should have installed when you loaded the Calibration Shapes plugin.

When you load it there are some new settings to fill in.

When the printer comes across an M104 or an M109 command; the screen on the printer should update to the new temperature.   I'm guessing the gcode didn't have the constantly changing temperature lines in it.

Ignore what @GregValiant said if you're using AutoTowers Generator. It handles all the scripting for you. Hard to mess up (which is why I don't think you messed up).

Also I don't know about an Ender-6, but on the Ender-3 models I've used the screen a) doesn't update if you're printing over USB (which you shouldn't do from your main computer, that's why I have an OctoPrint server running on a Raspberry Pi plugged into the printer) and b) doesn't show messages that it's told to display on the screen (using the M117 gcode command).

I had an issue with auto towers doing this to me a while back.  I let the author know and supplied him with the gcode.

It should be fixed now but you could post your gcode here and we could skim through and see the temperature change call outs
