I'm glad someone else mentioned this - I've wondered why the action isn't to lift away versus the mash it to the bed approach.
In fairness, it seems to work - I haven't seen many instances across 7 machines where the prime blob becomes a long string that affects the first layer of the print.

I know, right?
I think it's to squish the blob to the glass so it doesn't get pulled into the print by a string from the nozzle to the blob.
