Greetings everyone, and welcome to the first Monthly Printing Challenge!

As this is the first MPC there are expected to be bumps in the road and such as we figure out the best way to organize the challenge. That being said feel free to post suggestions to make the MPC better!

*********************************

Guidelines:

Beginning on the first of every month a winner is declared from the previous month.

Votes and submissions can be made at any time during the MPC month.

Flag official votes with bold text; "Vote:Name".

Flag your official submission posts with bold text, "Submission."

Flag print suggestions with bold text "Print: http://umforum.ultimaker.com/thing:192211"; or the whole text of the link.

Flag print votes with bold text, "Print Vote: name or link of the vote print"

If you suggest a print and want to also vote for it, indicate so in the suggestion text in anyway you see fit.

One vote per person, if changing a vote indicate so in the text; else it will be assumed to be your single vote.

Anyone can submit an official submission, propose a print, vote on a winning submission, but only those that intend to participate in the next months print can vote on the next month's print. This doesn't lock you into participating, but if you think you might participate then it's alright to vote for the next month's printing challenge.

*********************************

I'll tally up the best submission votes on a somewhat regular basis and update the numbers on the first post in this topic. I'll also keep a running tally of the prints that have been suggested and made, as well as the number of votes each new suggested print has.

An example submission could include things like close up photos of hard to print details, an overall photo of the print on the printer bed not removed, a photo of the print off the bed; some information about the print, how long the print took to build, how many print attempts you went through, printer type, bed temp, nozzle temp, filament type, print speed, some shared files, screenshots from slicing software to show supports, photos while printing, etc.

Not everything is absolutely necessary, this is intended to help others gain experience faster and to demonstrate what to expect in a quality print. Feel free to make your official submission whatever you see fit

I'm already well on my way to a great looking print! I think I saw a bracelet like the one we are working on being printed in this orientation, I don't know if it's optimal though; but I have a month to fiddle around with the print settings.

Let's all try together to beat the result from this SLA printer

Challenge accepted! I think the concept of the SLA printer is very interesting and useful, but it fails on the practicality side of things. With limited print materials and very weak printing material, the machines in my opinion are mainly for printing things that will be molds for other materials. If we can adjust the print settings to get an equivalently clean print then the FFD printer will reign supreme.

Now this is what I'm talkin' about! Can't wait to see what you guys come up with.

I'm already intrigued nu Aaron's support material and my first question will be how was it generated.

Yeah, great timelapse onkelgeorg; I love those! Did you know ColorFabb is having a timelapse contest for a huge super box of fialment: http://learn.colorfabb.com/time-lapse-contest-summer-2014/

Here are some pictures and video links of me tearing away the support structure; all in all it took about 10 minutes and the little blobs on the surface I can scratch off the surface with my fingernail. I was printing with a new ABS and I think a little too hot. The rest turned out great except for the bottom; there is more than one way to skin a cat, I've got other plans.

    Hi Aaron :)

    Comprehension question:

Can you choose one of the four available objects, or did I miss something and the object is defined?

    Oh well , let's go.

I would like to give it a try. The last 362 hours pure printing-time without bad incidents, which gives me a lot of courage for a daring getaway. :p

Not bad for a first try :) tried to slice it yesterday with supports from meshmixer, but didn't print, i didn't find a good way to support yet. This is a tough print :) challenging. I'm thinking to give it a try with Colorfabb XT maybe

I can't wait till my exams are over and I can start printing :D

On a slightly unrelated note, I can't watch the videos uploaded here. It installed a quicktime plugin but next it doesn't recognize the videos...?

Windows 7, but mine asked me to download a media player extension. I did it, and it works.

Alright!! A pinned topic! Yeah! Thanks IRobertI :D

With regard to watching videos on the forum, it's always seemed glitchy to me as well. I use firefox and it automatically uses my VLC player to render the video. I hate dealing with QT's BS.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
