UM2 Raspberry Pi holder?

Recommended Posts

Posted · UM2 Raspberry Pi holder?

Has anyone stumbled on/created a good solution to attach a Raspberry Pi (B) + camera module to a UM2 printer for timelapses. That is without having to modify the printer? (as in drill holes and so on).

There's so much cases out there, I don't even know where to start.

I would look at the bottom of the UM2. Look for the proper holes, and attach the Pi. When we designed the bottom plate, we put mounting holes for a Pi there. Just to be sure.

    Cool to know Daid.

Unfortunately the flat cable that connects the camera module is only 15cm long or so, so I would never be able to get that up to the required height for timelapse filming

My raspberry pi arrived today. I was looking for a case also. Cool to know there are mounting holes. There are also extension cables here http://www.bitwizard.nl/shop/rpi-camera-extension

apparently they tested them successfully up to 4m/13 ft.

I researched this before I order my pi.

I was going to mount the camera at the rear by the stepper motors looking forward and run the cable in behind the covers. But seeing you can get really long ribbon cables it could run along with the led cables and up the front looking back.

I had designed some small (and dirty) stuff to place the printed RaspiCase on the front top of the UM2.

And i adapted a case for the camera to be screwed to the case.

It's not very nice but it does the work, i have to check if i can find all the files i you want.

    Didier that would be awesome.

@Labem: I find that cable fairly expensive and bulky and I don't feel like ordering the original flat cable from the US either. Printing a case is still my preferred solution

I'll try to upload it on youmagine as soon as possible.

I will try to make it a bit stronger too, but i have to find the files first ^^ (i'm a bad organised designer  )

Sorry for bumping such an old thread, but I don't see any holes on the bottom plate that match the hole pattern for the Pi board.

The only set of unused holes (4) I can see on the 3D assembly is 50mmx70mm, but the Pi mounting hole pattern is 49mmx58mm. I suppose you could make an adapter or modify a case to use those holes, but I was just curious if there was a change in the bottom panel for a UM2 in 2014 compared to my UM2+ (not sure of build date, before 2017) that prevents directly mounting the Pi with some standoffs.
