Hi together,

somehow retraction is not always applied for travel moves. The model I'm printing has the same crosssection all the time and a lot travels have to be made. Most places retraction is applied, but sometimes its not. Thus I have strings whenever this is the case.

Minimum travel setting (1,5mm) is way lower than the travel distance. combing enabled. -I'm on a deltatower.

Any suggestions?

If combing is enabled, then it won't retract on moves within the 'interior' of the object.

Also, the 'minimal extrusion distance' is applied - Cura won't fire a second retraction until that much filament has been printed, to avoid grinding over the same spot. This distance is measured in mm of filament input into the printer.

    Thanks illuminarti,

in the pic you can see the model. Min extrusion is set to 0.02mm.

If combing is enabled, then it won't retract on moves within the 'interior' of the object.

-all other moves are in the interior as well, but here retraction is done. the move on the very bottom is one that is without retraction and causes strings, most others are fine.

That could very well be the "minimal extrusion before retraction" kicking in, as it moves from the right to the left and did a retraction just before the spot where it needed to do a new retraction.

This feature has been implemented not to make the prints look better, but to prevent problems with jamming printers. You could put the setting to 0 if you are not afraid that you will jam your feeder.

.02mm can be quite a bit of filament. If you use 3mm filament and .1mm layers there is a 160X factor so .02mm is 3.2mm of horizontal extrusion.

Had to read it twice but I get it now, 0.02 mm off 3mm filament going in means 3.2mm of 0.4 by 0.1 mm filament going out the nozzle.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
