ultimaker 2 stopped mid print

Recommended Posts

Posted · ultimaker 2 stopped mid print

so i got my printer in today and its working great. on small prints that is. i printed the sample robot just fine. downloaded a thing off thingaverse (a lego) and it printed perfectly. the problem i had is when i went to go print a part i made. about 30 min into the print, it just stopped. (its a 9 hour print btw)

even shows on the display for the correct amount of time

and just froze in place. the screen was showing the normal home screen with print/maintenance etc. as if it finished

don't know what caused it. i had to re-calibrate the table to bring it down to get the part off and re-start. does anybody know what could of caused this?

Re the fans. There's an easy way to make sure they work by starting a print (any print) and then going into the Tune menu on the printer. In the Tune menu you can manually set the fan speed to 100% to make sure they spin up. If they don't, you should check the wire connections and make sure they're connected properly. The following link talks about the third fan on the print head but the same applies for the side fans as well. They're connected to the green and yellow wires:

After you've done this you can simply turn off the power to the printer (if you exit out of the menu the printer will start printing if it has reached temperature). Actually to prevent burning yourself on accident you can dial down the temperatures while in the tune menu as well. That way things wont sit around hot while you work.

If the fans spin up as they should you most likely turned them off in the expert settings by mistake so check that.

just took notice they are working now. i suppose the bottom layers it just doesn't use them for better adhering to the base plate.

Correct. If memory serves the first 5mm is a ramp up zone so to speak. It starts with the fans off and then slowly ramp up the speed to 100% during the first 5mm. Personally I always set this to 1mm.

and it froze again, luckily i had it being streamed for my personal record. it looks like the unit cut off entirely. even though all the other devices on the line remained on.
