E3D Head for UM2, possible?

Recommended Posts

Posted · E3D Head for UM2, possible?

People have had bad luck with all metal head. PLA sticks to it too easily and it is even a more pain in the neck than replacing the white teflon part. Instead consider getting an i2k at my store (and some of those teflon parts):

I only have one left but have more coming in hopefully Monday. Here's the teflon part (cheaper in my store):

Many of the answers for the questions for using the E3D head on the UM2 can be found here:

Feel free to ask any questions. The weak point is still the extruder on the UM2 and all metal heads (E3D) can be a pain if you are not careful with calibrations and temperature control of materials. By the way the field has moved to 4 extruders and beyond for less then the price of a new UM2. Also, check out the cutting edge for project Ara between Google and 3DSystems. Multiple UM2 heads on an assembly line type system would be awesome.

I installed one of the Olsson blocks a couple days ago (from PrintedSolid) and it is already far more dependable than the stock block was. I looked at your store and saw .4 mm jet nozzles. Are those for the Olsson block? I did see several things I'd like to pick up at your store, when they're in stock.

Everything should be in stock later this week - waiting for a shipment from 3dsolex. Yes all the nozzles in my store are designed for 3mm filament and the Olsson block. But they will work on the UMO also but you have to modify the UMO fan shroud for it to not hit the part you are printing if you use the e3dv6 nozzles. Keep in mind that other people sell compatible e3dv6 nozzles (for more money) such as micro-swiss.com, printedSolid.com and e3d-online in the UK. These nozzles are a standard size and used for non-ultimaker printers also.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
