UMO heated bed kit clicking noise from the electronics

Hi,

I can hear a clicking noise from the heated bed electronics board even when the printer is off.

Actually it clicks only if the printer has been on before. If I unplug and plug in the power, no clicking. If turn the printer on and off again, the board will be clicking (even if the heated bed has not been activated).

The clicking is about 3-5Hz and does not stop unless I unplug the power.

Is that normal ?

Same here, I have it on my desk and can hear the clicking from the new power supply board.

Mine is not half as loud...

 

I did amplify it so it was easier to hear, It's not actually that loud in reality but as I sit next to my Ultimaker at my desk it is audible. It's not really a problem because I just powercycle the machine to get rid of it.

I've had the same. The only solution is to unhook the power supply from the printer itself.

Probably the voltage converter, but yeah, annoying

I measured the noise with a piezo-electric microphone and it seems like the noise comes from one of the capacitors. Here it is the Panasonic ZA capacitor (150μF, 35V) "150 V ZA XXX".

It is exaclty 50Hz at mine, therefore I guess the capacitor foil vibrates at the power frequency. Corsair explains here (in german), that this can happen if the capacitor is badly coiled.

I looked again:  i am no longer sure that the noise comes from the electrolytic capacitors, it is more likely that it is caused by any of the ceramic capacitors (see here)...

The problem is that this shouldn't happen since the output of the external power supply should be a smooth DC, can anyone of you measure the supplied power with an oscilloscope?

By the way - Is there any pcb layout online?
