We got our UM3 in September to replace our Z18 and it’s been a real workhorse. However in the last couple of weeks I’ve had several issues. I replaced the 0.4mm BB core with a new one when the supplied one became badly clogged and I couldn’t get it unblocked. I naturally tried an atomic unclog and this, I suspect, unseated the power and data cable to the print head. This obviously resulted in print head communication errors and it continues to come loose during prints. Currently I’ve wrapped some insulation tape around the outer part of the shielding and inserted that into the clamp and taped over the cable and clamp. I might try some sugru next.
Today I got an i2c error and after removing and resetting both printcore an error that core2 was taking too long to heat up — after it had worked fine loading material.
I feel that all these sudden errors are related. Maybe when the power and data cable came loose one of the inner wires also unseated somewhat. I’ve had more reliable behaviour with dual PLA at least.
Any thoughts and suggestions welcome.
BTW we’ve got several printers in our lab from Ultimaker, Makerbot and FormLabs so I’m not a complete novice here!
Lots of trouble with Ultimaker 3 Excended lately.
