  1. Thanks Daid,

Sorry, I wasn't very clear, what I meant was: Cura is running great for me and giving good quality prints, what I'd like to do is move the settings from cura to the ulti controller.

My calibration gives 848 steps per E, and I'm not sure of the conversion to E steps / mm.

BTW, cura is fantastic, makes getting started as a total noob a breeze, thank you.

  2. Does anyone know if there exists any documentation to go along with the ulticontroller?

In particular I'm looking at the conversion of the steps / mm in Cura to the setting on the controller.

(I'd also like to change the preheat settings)

    Cheers.

  3. Thanks for the advice guys.

I'm getting a strange intermittent problem, every now and then the nozzle dries up and the print gets really sparse. the thumbscrew on my extruder is pretty tight (almost to the bottom) and it indents pretty heavily into the filament. What is a good rule of thumb for how the extruder should be set? I've dropped the temp back to around 205C and for the most part it's running fine.

Maybe the temperature is too high to compensate for what I'm doing with the extruder? I feel like I'm adjusting too much at once to know what's wrong, but any suggestion would be welcome.

Thanks again for the kind words all.

  4. Hi guys,

Support finally dispatched a replacement Bowden tube yesterday, looking forward to the first print as soon as it arrives...

No luck finding an Australian distributor who can get short lengths of the PFA tubing, plenty of places can order it in from overseas, but the smallest minimum order so far is 20m of tubing (@ $13AUD / meter  ). So that's a lot of money sight unseen.

Thanks to everyone for the help, it's most appreciated.

  5. Hi Guys,

Thought I should add my experience importing the Ultimaker kit into Australia to this thread. (as of May 2012)

The Ultimaker kit attracted GST as expected. But there is also a 5% customs duty owing :x , so the total for GST, duty and "Aust. Govt. Charges" was $346.

I queried this and it looks like the customs ruling is that the 3d printer kits attract 5% duty at the moment.

The kit is well worth it, but I was surprised by the $80 of duty, and $55 govt. charges.

    Anyway, happy 3d printing!

  6. Thanks guys,

I've looked around a few of the local stockists. They will get it in, but only for a minimum of 50ft spool... Don't really want to spend $250 on replacements.

Got a few more to get in touch with yet and Ultimaker are sending me a replacement tube on Wednesday anyway.

    Cheers,

  7. Thanks for the speedy advice guys,

    Daid,

It's an official kit, delivered last week. Thanks for the suggestion for replacement part, but sadly McMaster won't deliver to Australia so I'm a bit out of luck there. Also, Cura is fantastic, so thanks for that.

    Joergen,

I had a look and the tube is a uniform inner diameter and outer diameter throughout the whole length. The geared extruder end is a bit wider after the countersink but still only a few inches of filament will fit until the friction becomes too high to force more in. :x

    Sinar,

Good to know I'm not alone in this problem. I sent support an email on the weekend, hopefully they come through with a replacement soon.

It's a shame because the rest of the build was great and the machine seems really well engineered. To get to the last step of loading filament to find out it doesn't work is a bit disheartening.

Anyway, here is hoping support straighten this out ASAP.

  8. Hi all,

I've just finished the build of my UM. and was getting set to do a first print but neither of the supplied filaments (PLA or ABS) fit in the bowden tube provided.

I can get about 10cm of black PLA filament into the tube and then it's too hard to push in even by hand! There is no blockage I can see, it just gets progressively harder to push until the friction is too high.

I've checked the bowden tube is mounted correctly, with the blue taped (opened out) end toward the geared extruder. And the filaments both measure the correct 2.89mm diameter.

I've sent an email to support, but does anyone have any advice to get me up and printing?

    Cheers,

    Angus.

  9. Hi Guys,

I have exactly the same issue with my new kit. I can force about 2 inches of the provided filament into the flared end of the bowden tube, but then it get too hard to push even with both hands!

Maybe the bowden tubes in the recent batch of kits is too tight?

Is there anything else I can do to get up and printing?

I'll send a message to support and let you guy know what I find out.

  10. Hi Everyone,

I'm a 3d printing newbie, looking to get an ultimaker after doing some research

Unfortunately the ultimaker wiki is down just now, could someone let me know which PLA filament diameter the current ultimaker kits use?

Can anyone in Australia recommend a good place to get more filament?

    Thanks in advance.

    CT.
