Have mentioned this in another post the Autodesk inventor plugin seems to be missing from the marketplace. Since I installed it into 3.5 it says that it installed but cura 4 beta can open an IPT file

The developer of the Autodesk-plugin has to update the plugin to be compatible with Cura 4.0

CURA 3.6 is very slow and laggy on my Mac computer and laptop. I've had technicians double check the installation process and have turned off the automatic slicer. Currently there is about a 5-10 sec wait before clicking on on object and then accessing the transformation tools to resize or move the object. I am printing with custom printer profiles, but I have only changed the print bed dimensions and nozzle diameters, so surely this shouldn't affect the time lag so much.

Does anyone have any tips for settings that would make Cura run faster? I know how good Cura can be, as I used to run Cura 3.? off Windows PCs last year and it was instantaneously slicing, transforming and giving me print prep data.

What MacOS version are you running?

Thanks for the quick reply, gyroind turned up and looks neat.  Just about to print a small part that failed which this may help.

Still no simulation view, tried the option here but still doesen't show.  Nice feature to see the movement.  I have had problems before where travel caused bad layers so to see how the layers go down would be really useful.

I have a current version of win10 so should support Open GL ?  I may try reinstall to see if it iwas one of the options I rejected.

Seems it may be compatibility mode but where is it ? Still searching but can't see it in any settings or options.

OpenGL support depends on your videocard drivers. You can check the logs to see what OpenGL version Cura detects on your system.

I was hoping that 3.6 would fix the cure profile  backward compatibility problem of the last few versions.  Just about every piece of decent reliable software on the planet is backward compatible to some degree with their recent versions - but not Cura it seem,  and only talking about version 2.x  from  less than two years ago - not 10 years or even 5.

I have some 100  important profiles that Ver 3.x throws back at me as being corrupted or "does not contain any valid data"  What a joke.  All those original setting parameters (that I am aware of at least) still exist in the new Cura version. It's just they have added new features which sure, is great, and I'd like to use them. OK, so there are new setting parameters that have been added, and these have default settings so why not just  automatically update the Cura profile files when using the import command when importing a previous version and add in the default settings for the new version.  Happy to then adjust and edit these.

Very sloppy and lazy on the part of the programmers I reckon. I guess they don't  live in the real world ☹️

Is it possible for you to share your settings folder with us? Than we can try to recreate your scenario on our computers and maybe fix it.

Well, this is a major issue:

I purchased some Zytel, which is a loadable 'profile' through the marketplace. And, guess what, it is faulty on the Cura end as well as Cura Connect. Oh, and 3.6 did not like it at all. It wanted to reset all my printers and stuff, so I gave up on that and rolled back to an earlier version. This did not throw the same error.

    1. Loaded it up and it is not fully supported. Never one to be daunted by these type of messages I configured it anyway based on what I can find about printer temps. This is even though it is 'available' on the marketplace.

This is fixed in the 3.6.0 stable that will be released today.

    2. Even though it is part of the market place, which by my thinking should be 'ready' to go if it is there, I cannot directly support it through Cura Connect or the S5. So, I have to choose CPE+ (On the S5) to make sure I hit the temp range for proper loading and such.

    3. Then it tells me to Load "Zytel', but, there is no 'Zytel' to choose from. OK.

If you connect your S5 through your network, Cura will sync the materialprofiles in the background when connected to that printer (printer needs to have firmware 5.1+) After that you can select it on your printer. (The CPE+ trick should also result in good prints)

  6. @kmanstudios I have asked the Cura team to investigate your issues.

Can I install a newer version than my current (3.4.1) which would be fresh from any influence from previous installed versions?  Might be a good time to go back to default settings, attempt to apply the material templates as they are intended, and sort of purge all the settings changes that I have accumulated over the past couple years.

When a newer version of Cura doesn't find a settings directory for its version and finds an old settings directory, it will copy it and then convert it (when needed).

So what you would need to do is to move your settings directory, start Cura 3.6.0-BETA, close it. And then copy back the settings of the Cura versions you still want to run. The settings can be found in (Windows) /Users/[username]/AppData/Roaming/cura

  7. 57 minutes ago, kmanstudios said:

yes. and it greatly interferes with other programs. It has crashed my system. This version has not had time to do it, but the other one did.

I noticed on my windows 10 machine that when I startup and close Cura rapidly a few times, the notification icon indeed is multiplied. When I hover with my mouse over these icons they a removed until the last one (that actually is the Cura that is running). Do the notification icons also disappear when you move your mouse over them?

Memory usage is 220MB here, it increases when loading a model, but doesn't grow when I'm not doing anything. Is it possible for you to start 3.6-BETA without your old configuration? How big is your settings folder?

    C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\cura

and just to make sure that the memory leak I am experiencing and 'silent crashes' do not get overlooked in the well deserved foofarah over plugging the Octoprint and monitor leaks, I still get both and I do not use the monitor and have never used Octoprint.

The memory leak will be fixed in Cura 3.6. Are the 'silent crashes' a result from the memory leak?

Well, thanks for the information... so this means breakaway supports will be broken in the newest Cura version for how long?

This is model specific right? You can change the 'Support Floor pattern' to 'lines' and then in should work ok.

Thanks for the link. Sad if this really is the end of line. I am 'stuck' at 10.9.5. But it should not be impossible, there still some great complicated software still in development for 10.9.5 (for example FormZ). I may have to go back to Simplify3D that I left when I bought the UM3 (if this keeps evolving in my environment).

We are still looking into this, MacOS 10.9 is 4 years old. We rely heavily on Qt and version 5.8 is out of support starting this year. 5.8 is the last version that supports MacOS 10.9

You can still keep on using Cura 3.4.1 as a current 'workaround'.

  11. The remarks here don't do justice to all the hard work the Cura team and system testing is putting into making sure every release is more stable than the previous one. It is certainly not the case that we don't test stuff and 'just put it out there'.

We followed the same development and testing process for 3.5.0 as we did for all previous 3.*.* releases. With an expanding automated test I would even argue we tested 3.5.0 better than the previous releases. During the 3.5.0-BETA we got very little bug reports so we assumed 3.5.0 was ready to be released. From our point of view 3.5.0-BETA was ready to be released to the public.

When looking into the crash reports, we see that two bugs (crash in the Lockfile and a TypeError when searching for containers) contribute for 88% of the crashes we see. Without these two we would have a a new record low of startup crashes. Of course we want to reach 0, but we have to do this in steps.

We are finishing up 3.5.1 and think all major bugs are fixed but of course it is difficult to determine if it is fixed when we can 't reproduce it, we haven't seen these two bugs at any system here at Ultimaker.

yes, I deleted the configuration folder twice. I make twi clean installs. One without network

I tried that, too. I made a clean installation without network connection. It doesn't change anything

JUST TOO SLOW: adding my 2 cents on Cura 3.5 for the Mac.  I'm running  High Sierra on a dual-core iMac late 2009 machine with 12 Gb RAM and solid state drive: not seeing the errors people describe here BUT it is far, far too slow for any practical use.   Rendering, panning, zooming, all take PHENOMENALLY long times to execute.    And this appears to be platform specific.     I have a tiny Lenovo "windows chromebook" - Chromebook-class hardware, Windows 10 - with a 1.6 Celeron, just 4 Gb RAM, so very low powered, bought it for portability in connecting to research gear.   Running Cura 3.4.1 on it, panning/zooming/rendering/slicings is easily twice as fast as my iMac running 3.4.1.      (I've reverted on the Mac to 3.4.1 - it's slow, but still usable.   3.5 crosses the line to where I can't actually get our work done due to the speed issue.

So even with a deletion of /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/cura and a reinstall of Cura 3.5.1-BETA it is still slow?

Thanks for the suggestions and a path to diagnosis. Here are my results:

I've got no removable drives right now and nothing attached via USB.  I actually tried launching Cura with and without having the printer USB attached.  There was no difference in the slowness or CPU utilization. I then tried launching with and without having WIFI active.  That had no effect.  Also, Cura wants to listen on some port and I get asked each time.  I've launched with and without allowing this ability to listen on some port. In all cases, the performance is still laggy and the CPU utilization is still at or above 100%.  For reference, when I terminate the program or prior to launching, CPU utilization sits at around 5% or less.

From an information standpoint, none of the suggested things to try had any effect on the application performance or CPU utilization.

I'm wondering if I should go ahead and push towards compiling the code locally and utilizing a profiler to identify the problem code block.  Does any one who commits, work on a MacBook at or newer than my vintage computer?  If so, do you experience the performance issue? Are you running the latest patched macOS version from Apple?

B.T.W. The previous version of Cura 2.6.69 works relatively well on my computer (it's got serious font issues though).

    Reggie

And have you tried Cura 3.4.0?

    Hi,

I'm fairly new to Cura. I created my 2 custom printers and printing profiles. That cost me a lot of time!

Today I update cura to from 3.3.1 to 3.4 and all of my custom settings are gone. All printers and profiles....I saved a exorted profiles but doesn't help much.

So I tried to downgrade to 3.3.1 and voila: all settings are back as if nothing had happened.

    I'm using a Mac with Mac 10.13.4

Is this a normal behavior on cura?

Did you get a 'corrupted profiles' warning?
