Yes it's new, and I'm the one to blame. 😆 The default value can be set in Preferences » General » Viewport behavior » Automatically drop down models to the build plate. This global setting has been there for a long time, I only added the possibility to change it per object. It is strange that the unticked value was forced on you during the update, this shouldn't have happened. Any body else got this issue?
