  1. I'm disappointed.

    I mean, a reliable dual extrusion looks fine, but there is nothing really innovative for that price point.

    People already developed equally interesting ways to do it, even as hacks on UM2/UM2+ models.

    Those new "print cores" look like unnecessary complicated swappable hot-ends that are pretty far from the "keep-it-simple" approach and will probably be overpriced. Doesn't really fit in the open-source mindset.

    But that's probably fine, as you are now only targeting professionals.

    I am quite disappointed with the Colorfabb XT filament, especially at this price point.

    There is a lot of curling, especially on overhangs.

    Strength-wise, I didn't feel any difference between XT and Esun PETG. It doesn't mean that there are not, simply that I didn't perform tests to actually measure it.

    I should have tested the filament instead of relying on the spec sheet and marketing words on the official website before dropping 130 euros (4 rolls).

    By the way, I contacted Colorfabb's support and they replied:

    The results you have achieved with our _XT material are in line with what I would expect to see for such a model.

    So yes, I would say this is an expected result.

    It does seem indeed that eSun's PETG handles the dissipation of the heat better in this case.

    Until somebody compare the properties of Esun PETG vs Colorfabb XT, I would advise you to stick with Esun PETG. You'll get a much better finish.

  3. Here how the current plate looks like.

    As you can see, there is a single hole that we could use.

    Currently, there is nothing using that hole, at least on my model.

    I'm not sure that this single hole would suffice to clamp the steel bar really tight, and I agree that it would ease a lot the overall project.

    Plus, no original parts would need to be modified!

    Let me preface this by stating that I'm not an engineer, probably a dumb dude and very new to the 3D printing world.

    I witnessed quite a lot of vibrations on the build plate of my Ultimaker 2+ and I think that it has a detrimental effect on the quality output.

    I was wondering if we could put two small steel bars as an attempt to rigidify the whole plate and limit those vibrations.

    I checked with my local hardware store and they supply flat bars of 35mm wide and 6mm thickness.

    Here is a quick model I did, based on the source files of the plate shared on Github (thanks btw :->;).

    I calculated that each of those bars weight ~500g, so I would be adding more or less 1kg to the current plate.

    A quick check with a 1kg spool filament showed me that the motor seems to lift the plate pretty well, not sure if the Z-accuracy is conserved though.

    Do you think that adding those bars would help with the vibrations ?

  5. Hi!

    I have my Ultimaker 2+ for 3 weeks and enjoy it very much so far.

    I recently identified some stains on the aluminium bed, just below the glass.

    I tried to wash both the glass and the aluminium bed but it didn't do much.

    It seems that the glass facing the aluminium got a little bit deteriorated at this specific spot (rough to the touch).

    Should I be concerned ?
