Well, i've tried it on Fedora, where it does work.

Could you try if putting the files from the attached zip in the config folder works?

    3.6_fixed.zip

Sorry for the Delay. With Christmas coming up, I have been busy.

I loaded the config folder up, and it looks good so far. I look forward to checking out the improvements since 3.4.1.  Thank you.

Normally it should do this automatically from one version to another. For some reason, this didn't happen on your system. You could try deleting the 3.6 folder and see if re-triggering it works.

I did what you asked. It didn't work.

I would have been surprised if it did work this time, as I was asked to do the same for version 3.5.0 and 3.5.1.

  3. I have the same problem with Cura 3.6 as I did with 3.5.0 and 3.5.1. It doesn't import any settings or profiles from Cura 3.4.1

I have posted on here (three times now) for the previous version, but no one seemed interested in solving my problem. Every person that has shown some interest, just asks for my log file and then never responds again ever...  So here is the log file, again.

I have the same problem as with 3.5.0, when I install the new version it doesn't import my printer, material or profile settings from 3.4.1. I mentioned in the "New Cura 3.5" thread, but since the problem is still here in 3.5.1 and that other thread is so long, I made a new topic.

Below is the last step I tried for 3.5.0.  I have since uninstalled 3.5.0 and installed 3.5.1 and even tried the steps below on the new version. Not working. I still have 3.4.1 installed and am using that, since it has all my setup.

Hi @James777, no sure what happened, but in the 3.5 folder, your custom qualities are indeed missing. I tried removing the 3.5 folder and then start Cura 3.5, which will upgrade using your existing 3.4 folder, and that worked for me. Could you try that, too?

    1. Remove the following folders:
      • C:\Users\<your-user-name>\AppData\Roaming\cura\3.5
      • C:\Users\<your-user-name>\AppData\Local\cura\3.5
    2. Start Cura 3.5

I tried this. It did it's setup thing, but still the same as last time. It didn't import anything. It just has the default printer settings, materials and profiles. Not my settings, materials and profiles.

That's because we all have a lot of experience in writing Cura code. I have worked on Cura full time for 3 years, while the Cura team is growing and so it also has some people who are newer to the code base.

Also the Cura team might take on tasks which are more challenging or more bug-prone.

Although I am not using 3.5.0 (due to a bug in importing my profiles); with a background in industrial PLC programming, I can appreciate the hard work and complexity that goes into making a program like this. Especially a program that is offered for free. If you are unhappy enough, you can buy Simplify3D.

    Thanks for the hard work.

Hi @James777, could you send us your cura configuration directory? It's in your user directory "C:\Users\<your-user-name>\AppData\Roaming\cura". Thanks in advance.

I was out of town for a bit, but I am back now. Here is the cura directory with both versions.

As i mentioned before; I did try to copy the definitions from 3.4.1 to 3.5.0. That is why there is a backup of the original 3.5.0 directory. I did this trick to copy my settings from my laptop to my desktop installations of cura a few weeks back which worked great. I thought it might work for 3.5.0.

    I see several errors:

    • serial.serialutil.SerialException: could not open port 'COM5': PermissionError(13, 'Access is denied.', None, 5)
    • cura.Machines.MaterialManager.__addMaterialMetadataIntoLookupTree [255]: Material custom_material_cartesio_0.4_mm contains a variant 0.4 mm that does not exist. It will not be added into the material lookup tree.
    • UM.VersionUpgradeManager._getUpgradeTasks [278]: Config file [.\Monoprice+Select+Mini+V2+%28E3D%29_user.inst.cfg] is of version [4000005], which is different from the defined version [2000000], no upgrade task for it from type [user].

I've forwarded it to the developers as well (I'm currently not working on Cura).

OK thanks. Cura 3.4.1 is running fine for me, so I don't know why there would be a problem transferring the settings to 3.5.0.

I may have had a Adafruit Circuit Python Express (microcontroller) plugged into COM 5 (USB) at the time. It currently has an intermittent communication error which I have been troubleshooting off and on for the last week. I am not sure how that would affect CURA though.

Can you share the logs? Cura is supposed to upgrade your old configs to the new version, so something must have gone wrong in that process.

Here is the log file for 3.5.0. The install did select my printer but only with the default setup. I had modified it including changing several things in the start and stop gcode and had a second modified version of the printer setup. I did start installing some plugins, but when I realized I would have to edit all the profiles, printer settings that I had tweeked etc, I stopped.

    cura.log

In the meantime I am still using 3.4.1, as it never uninstalled (or asked to uninstall) the previous version.

  10. I have been using Cura 3.4.1 for two months. I installed 3.5.0 when prompted, but none of my profiles, materials or printer setup is in the new version.

I tried the backup/restore plug in. No Good.

I tried copying the definitions folder from 3.4.1 to 4.5.0. No Good.
