I'm also experiencing this lock up. I install, can run it the first time, then on subsequent loads it freezes up. I also noticed if I leave it running a long time, then try to alter settings, it also freezes up. Not using Windows Firewall. I have installed the most recent directx and c++ runtime environments. If I delete cura.cfg and re-run, everything is fine.
