  1. Thank you Greg for the 3mf file.

     

    On my end though I can see 2 remaining issues that would hinder using this technique.

     

    1) The wall in the middle between the inner and the outer part is 2 lines thick, even when setting the wall count to 1 of the eraser used there.
    2) The walls connecting the magnet hole do not appear on layers before layer 6

    would it be an idea to change this topic to a feature request? To also be able to slice internal walls?

  2. I have a piece of a magnet holder. It needs to be stiff so that is why I need internal walls.

     

    I have asked about something similar in the past but this time I have a better model that is closed.

    In the image above the upper model is actually 3 separate models merged together to have them in the same location as they were during STL generation.

    Now the internal walls are overlapping but that is of no concern due to the "union overlapping" feature.

    When slicing the inner walls get sliced as well just as I'd like.

    Below it we have the same model yet exported as a single STL. Now the internal walls are no longer being sliced even though they show up in the x ray view quite good.

    Is there a setting I am overlooking that will get the internal walls sliced on single STL models? If it is not possible it would mean a tremendous amount of extra work splitting up larger models into many smaller pieces.

    in my scenario those holes on the build plate, which are walls, almost always fail. They come out curled up and are getting stuck on my BL touch. In my scenario the outer walls are not a problem though.

     

    If we could just start with the bottom skin only on the first layer I thing the walls on the second layer will stick much better.

     

    The alternative is to baby sit my print and remove all the failed circles (walls) during the first layer.

  4. Using cura 5.2.1 I'd like to have 2 separate models placed overlapping in a very precise way.

    On the left we see a single model (exported as a single STL) that is what I need to end up with.
    In the middle we have part of a disk that should be placed overlapping to the teeth model on the right.
    The end result should be just like the model on the left.

     

    Reason being is that I am printing functional parts and the middle disk part and the teeth part have different print settings.

     

    The problem I have is that cura automatically drops the models on the build plate (even when disabling that feature in the general settings) and the orientation of the models in relationship to each other is lost during importing.
    If the orientation would be preserved, even though models end up on the build plate (basically overlapping during multiple model import) I am already helped a lot because then I could simply adjust the z axis on the disk model.

    It is getting the models aligned in terms of orientation that has me struggeling at the moment.

  5. Yes thank you, the model looks good in your cura. There was no need to repair the STL though. That red part you repaired was a start of the stiffeners I was in the process of adding but forgot to remove just before deciding to post here.

     

    The new project I have attached has the stiffeners finished so no errors in the model. But the same issue is now more pronounced as can be seen in the images in my previous post.

     

    I also had this theory regarding support but disabling support did not do the trick for me 😞

     

    Anything else I can try?

  6. I tried disabling support as it could have been a support artifact for that wall that starts 2 layers later.
    But since the model is a solid (100% infill) there is no need for support there.

     

    But that did not do the trick 😞

     

    I have added some extra stiffners that also should be solid. Also those get visible on the first layer.

    this leads to less efficient print times and increases the failure rate of the first and subsequent layers.

     

    Layer 1 and 2 ( the first 0.9mm) should be homogeneous. So the print head never should have to stop and make sharp corners or anything.

     

    Layer 3 should have these shapes on it visible now on layer 1 and 2.

     

    I can force cura to not print these shapes the first few layers by increasing the distance between the bottom of the model and the lowest top layer. But that makes the solid too high in the lower parts.

    the first layer is divided in two parts while it should be a single homogeneous layer.

    I have made sure the model is a solid without open edges and the line that should not be there should only appear 2 layers later.

     

    Other sliceers, including the cura clone crealty slicer do not have this 'feature' out of the box.

     

    Is there a setting I can change to have cure not already print lines a few layers in advance?

  8. Ohh, I just realized.

     

    Even though my specific problem has been solved with a combination of cura settings and model gymnasitics.

     

    Is there a suggestion on how to more likely not run into these kind of issues in the future?

     

    i.g. I am willing to relearn modeling with blender and say farwell to sketchup 2017.

     

    I really belive that this issue was a result of my use of modeling software and the STl exporter that I installed as an add on.
    I do not believe the cura developers actually intended to have ther results be like this when processing a proper STL file

  9. Thank you Greg, your suggestion did lead me to victory.

     

    By it self the suggestion was not enough to get a single line. But when breaking up the model in smaller segments and removing a face from an adjacent segment it does lead to a single line being sliced.

     

    When putting back the surface mode to normal then the internal lines dissapear again.

  10. I have had the same issue on older versions as well.

     

    The internal faces are not being sliced/printed. only the outer faces are.

     

    This time it is paramount that I do not resort to working my way around the issue by making the internal faces boxes. The result I am aiming at should have a single wall/line connecting the outer single line edge with the inner single line edge. With the work arounds I have employed in the past the result would always be 2 lines for those inner boxes.
