  1. Could you consider adding a feature so that you can identify the file name of the model on the bed? Perhaps when you hover the mouse over? Or click on it? I have been printing some models made up of many similar parts.. And lost track of which ones I have just loaded/printed It would be nice to know the name of one which is currently on the bed... Instead I have to look at the finished print and then load each piece to compare it to work out which piece it was... And this is quite difficult when the parts are similar. Its not a major thing, but would be a nice feature I think. Jon
  2. Oh hang on.. I think this exists.. "Load Profile"...
  3. Understood.. So could there be an option added to force save config? And then to expand this, a way to "load" another config. This would be useful as you could have multiple configs for different applications?
  4. Cheers.. Will try a brim.. My only fear was that it extended outwards from the bottom layer, so I assume would be visible.. Where as the 'raft' implied that it was a totally seperate structure which could be removed. It doens't really matter too much.. I will give a Brim a look to see how it turns out. Cheers Jon
  5. I am ruinning PLA onto blue tape over aluminium (non-heated) I don't have a problem getting the first layer to stick.. But this project has 2 shafts.. And I have scaled the whole thing down to print a small version.. The shafts are about 6mm which means that there is almost no surface area. I have managed to print the 3 that I need with no problems (although the first fell over on the last layer).. But I was just wondering whether Brim/Raft might help me in cases like this. Jon
  6. Cheers.. I was just playing about, trying to work things out.. What othrr techniques are there? I had to do a couple of prints tonigh with small areas of contact.. One fell over (one the last layer) and one moved during the print... I looked at Brim, but this would be added to the bottom of my print, so i felt a "raft" was the better option... What else is there?
  7. I realise thats intended behavour. I only mention it incase it was the cause of the issue.. But now you come to mention it, i am sure i saw this with 14.07 too when i was playing around with it before i got ky printer.
  8. I can't be sure, and am certainly not saying that its a problem with CURA. But I have slowed it the head right down and it appears that for certain shapes it simply doesn't finsh all the edges on the very first pass. Take for example this: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:354039 The very first layer draws several triangles and circles.. And in my case, 2 of the triangles and 1 circle wasn't closed.. So this left a little 'blob' which then caused problems on later layers. When it did the 2nd pass (Still on the same layer) it drew around them and closed them up.. But the 'damage' was done by then.. The first layer (When finished) looks exactly like CURA shows in its layer view.. BUT.. The process of drawing it appears to be a bit odd when it leaves some of the shapes open...
  9. I have been playing with Rafts and Brims and looking at the "layers" in Cura rather than printing for real. And I am confused.. If I start with a model which has 99 lines.. And then I add a raft of 3 lines.. You can see that the first layer of the model now gets pushed up to layer 4. But the model is still 99 lines tall, so the top gets cropped off. This can easily be seen by exagerating the number of layers, to say 50... And then looking at the "layer" view.. The model is now sat on a thick raft, but the top is now missing. What gives? Is this right? Jon
  10. I looked for my preference files to take a backup and where as in 14.07 they are in th install directory in 14.09 they have moved to /USERS. So there has clearly been a change to the design and i wonder if there is a more fundamental problem.. Perhaps its a Windows thing (permissions?) rather than Cura?
  11. I have had to restart CURA a few times in the past few days (no evidence that this is actually a problem with CURA).. But when I load CURA the next time, my config is lost and I am asked what printer I have. This is starting to get annoying as its happened 3 times in the past 2 days and I am fed up having to enter all my config again. I am sure I can back up the config under the install directory which i will do now.. But I just thought someone might like to know... I assume this is a 'bug'.. How do I report it to CURA? Jon
  12. I am using Cura (14.07 and 14.09) with a Simple Metal and love it. But I have observed something which is causing me a major problem. When the very first layer goes down.. And the initial outline is printed.. Sometimes, CURA doesn't close the shape. This then leaves a little blob, which on the next pass either gets snagged on the hot end and rips up the print.. Or it just gets absorbed, which then causes a lump which takes a fair few layers to disappear. I am doing a print now and the first layer has 4 triangles and 4 squares.. I have set the speed down to 10mm/s so that I can watch it.. And clearly it never even tries to print part of one of the triangles and one of the squares. This has now left a blob, which is still being dragged around many layers on.. Has anyone else observed this? Is this something that the printer is doing? Or CURA? If CURA there really needs to be an option to lay down a complete first layer and always close up shapes. I look forwards to any thoughts that people have. Jon
  13. How do you request a feature? I just got my printer (Printrand immediatly started using CURA.. And frankly its awsome and I have no wish to try anything else as it does everything that I could ever wish for. Appart from 1 thing.. Pausing a print? In my first week, I have wanted/needed to pause the job several times due to tangled filament or to remove a 'blob' from the bed and was surprised that there is no feature to do this. I understand that this used to exist and it was buggy.. And I know I am not the only person to ask for this.. So I just wanted to start a thread for this, just incase the devs might consider adding this. I suspect there are technical reasons why this can't be done.. But I just live in hope that someone could find a way to do it. I look forwards to any thoughts you have, and have my fingers crossed that one day it happens. Jon
