  1. I am using PLA on an unheated bed, but am using blue tape. I generally dont have a problem with adhesion.. But when i get a lot of TINY parts on the first layer, a lot of the shapes arnt full "closed" and the open end has a little blob which snags when the head passes. I wondered if it was "oozing", but have lowered the temperature and it hasnt helped. So i think its got a lot to do with retraction and i am not even sure where to start.
  2. I activated my account the first day? And have been posting for months.. Surely my account is active.. How do i contect a mod?
  3. Couldnt reproduce it in 14.09 but as you say, the "double click" bug was there. But i could still open a couple of files with a plugin enabled and had no crash.. Thanks for fixing this so quickly.. Will test right away.
  4. This is exaclty what i am seeing. The little blobs get snagged and the first layer is destroyed. Are you suggesting i can turn retraction off for the first layer? Is there a feature or plugin to do that?
  5. I do have to agree that its a shame there isnt an option to "suspend slicing". There are countless times that i have had to make tiny tweaks to model and wished i could postpone the slicing process until i am ready. Dont get me wrong. I LOVE that CURA slices in real time. But sometimes wish i could stop it temporarily.
  6. Cheers.. Will test right away.. I am pretty sure this is the same thing i saw in RC8 and RC9 but only found the root cause in the later.
  7. Poll says i dont have permission to vote. I used to run CURA on a slow laptop and the auto slicing feature was really annoying. Bt it wasnt that much of a problem. But i did think at the time that it would be nice to have a button to disable slicing whilst you setup your model.
  8. Daid. Have you seen my comments above?
  9. I have to be honest, I don't even understand what the 'retraction' settings do.. And what combing even means. So I don't even know how retraction/combing might help me. Or why it would be used...
  10. Cheers.> i was going to ask whether playing with retraction values or turning off combing might help.. As I think the problem is that after each little shape, little 'blobs' are left.. And this catches the head next time around. Perhaps I could look at different software for this kind of print.. ANd will check out Craftware.. But what is this "problem that you absolutely hate"??
  11. Also.. If its any help, I have confirmed the behavior with ANY Plugin (and it doesn't matter what values you enter into the plugin)... As long as there is one 'enabled' this happens every time.. If there isn't one, then CURA does not crash.
  12. I have confirmed the same behavour in work (Also running Win7) One interesting point is that at Step 5, CURA still works.. You can still move stuff about, but if you do certain tasks (such as click on the Advanced tab) it crashes. So this (hopefully) should be easy to fix as I can reproduce it every time. Jon
  13. I think I have reproduced it... For me I can get it to crash every time if I do the following 1. Load CURA (14.12.RC9) 2. Have the "tweak At Z 3.2" plugin enabled (I have mine set to 1mm Layer and 185 degrees" 3. Load an object Note that the Plugin 'refreshes' when the object loads 4. Now load another object by double clicking in Windows (I am using Win7 by the way) Note that the Plugin now refreshes TWICE.. And the 2nd time it now shows blank words/values 5. CURA now crashes if you do anything... I hope you can reproduce this.. I will try in work tomorrow when I am near another PC.
  14. I think its still to do with "plugins".. I am suing "Tweak At Z 3.2" to change temperature at 1mm.. I disabled the plugin.. And have then managed to "play" with CURA for a good few mins with no problems.. But then I enabled the plugin again and within a few moves, it crashed. I notice that when the Plugin tab is open, you can see the plugin "refresh" as you move objects.. And just before it crashed the plugin went blank... So I am pretty sure there is still a problem wtih Plugin support..
  15. Make that 4 times.. And the last one had nothing to do with loading.. I just clicked on an object on the bed and it crashed..
  16. Its not looking good.. Installed RC9 and in the space of 2 mins, it crashed 3 times with "(Not Responding)".. I didn't even print.. I just loaded a few objects and moved them around Interestingly it seemed to happen either when I hit the "load" button.. Or double clicked on an STL file.. Jon
  17. They are CURA generated.. They are cyan coloured.. And go away when you turn supports off.
  18. Right click and "save as".. Its not an RC8 issue, as I looked at it in 14.09 and its the same.. Infact, I would say that 14.11 does a slightly better job creating a couple of support 'columns'. But I am no expert, so I will leave this to someone else to answer. Jon
  19. Unfortunatpy. Already using blue tape hich i have sanded and cleaned with alcohol.. Generally i have no problems with adhesion, but ther is something sbout these single layered tiny parts which just ping off.
  20. Say your first layer had lots of really small parts. Does anyone have any tips on how to stop them getting "flicked" off the bed? This is an example: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:51806 You have to use support, so the first layer is 60+ tiny little squares.. In the process of laying them, there is often a little blob of plastic.. And this catches on the head and flicks them off. As such Its impossible to get the first layer down.. I generally lay my first layer at 205 degrees (PLA) but wonder if this is causing too much oozing.. So I have gone cooler and get less blobs, but still loose some of the supports. Does anyone have any tips on how you cope with this? Transit slower? Faster? Printer slower? Move the head up?? Anyone have any ideas how I can do this. I had the same problem with this but gave up: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:362357 SO I am now going back to see if its possible. Jon
  21. Cheers Daid.. Let me know if this appears in a RC and I will give it a test.
  22. Cheers.. I will do a few tests to see if I can nail it down...
  23. Yes.. I use the bundled TweakAtZ to change the temperature after the 1st layer. Jon
  24. Is anyone else finding RC8 'unstable'? It keeps crashing on me. There is a bit of a background.. Until today I have been running my Printer off an old laptop.. CURA has been fine, but crashes occasionally (Showing "not responding").. But generally its stable. Today I finally moved my printer into my office and am now using my "main" PC.. .I decided to start right away with 14.11-RC8 and its crashed on me 4 times already today (showing "Not Responding").. I have now gone back to 14.09 (which I have been using for months on my laptop) and its been fine with no crashes. Anyone found any problems with 14.11? Or could it be that I am just suffering some teething problems with this "new" setup?
  25. Sorry.. I probably didn't explain myself.. I saw the "Single Layer View" in PU.. And I just wondered whether there was something similar in the current version that I had overlooked. I was pretty sure there wasn't (and you have confirmed this) but thought I would ask, as the Layer View in CURA can sometimes be annoying when you are looking for something on a specific layer.
