  1. I have seen many posts where people ask questions on speeds for printing, how to solve print problems, etc. Responses usually come back as print with "what ever" mm/s. My question is, is this "what ever" speed the "Main - Print Speed" in cura, leaving cura to calculate all the others, infill speed, perimeter speed, wall speed, automatically? So for example if someone says to print with say "50mm/s", that is referring to the Main Print Speed value, which will give a much slower Wall Speed, top/bottom speed, etc, correct? Assuming cura is left to auto calculate those values.
  2. I think it would be nice if Cura would display, by possibly a different color, where the start of a layer is going be. Trying to move the Z seam around and look at the layer view, its almost impossible to tell where cura is putting the seam when you have lines crisscrossing all over the place. What do you think?
  3. Well when you dont have a scale that can read Sub grams, and all cura says is ~1g, weighing it is not really an option. There has to be a better way.
  4. So this is a bit of a continuation of my other issues with over extrusion and first layer goodness. Thats all been resolved I think. After I calibrated my extruder steps/mm with no hot end connected, I then proceeded to set the first layer height, making it pretty close to that set in software (.3). Thats all good now, then I printed a hollow cube to measure the the wall thickness to attempt to set the extrusion multiplier. With the multiplier set at 100%, I am laying down lines a tad thicker than the .4mm set in software. So my question to you guys, How much deviation away from 100% is a sign something else may be wrong? Obviously in my other post I had to go down to around 30% to get proper width, thats how I found I was way over extruding. Now I am at 93% to lay down a perfect .4mm +- .013mm. So is 7% deviation within normal ranges assuming filament size variations and nozzle diam, etc?
  5. To finish off this topic, that first picture I posted i belive was indeed because my nozzle was to close. I measured the thickness after the brim finished, so I was getting an erroneous reading by measuring over all the bunched up material. By laying down one single line, I found I was actually layding down a layer closer to .006" and not .0116", so after I adjusted it, that issue went away. This had nothing to do with this last "OVER" extrusion problem I had though.
  6. I wish I was able to find out just what was causing it. What ever it was, its gone now and I am getting some great looking prints.....for my standards anyways
  7. Well, it was a software bug. I dont know what it was, or how to reproduce it, but when I installed 2.6beta, it took my previous profiles from the other install of cura 2.5. I giess what ever was messed up in 2.5 carried over into 2.6beta. I dont know where 2.5 files are stored, but 2.6 places them in appdata. So I removed all other curas, deleted the cura folder in appdata and started 2.6beta allowing it to create a fresh profile. Ran the same test cube and all is fine. How bizarre.
  8. Its a custom build running marlin. The printer does prime before it prints. Looking into this issue more, I find I have something very wrong and I dont know what it is. I began thinking it was a first layer issue, because I was only focusing on that. Keep in mind this printer has been printing well for a while, so something just happened and I cant figure it out. I printed a cube with zero infill, single wall to test the wall thickness. This too was WAY over sized. I had to decrease the flow rate to 33% just to get an expected flow rate. Thats obviously not normal. I have double checked my steps/mm, and it is almost spot on, I tell it to extrude 120mm, and 120mm gets feed, so I know the steps/mm are correct. I just cant figure this out. That problem is gone. I thought it came back and thats why I posted again here, but what is going on now I think is a new issue, more severe. I thought maybe Cura got some parameter stuck, so I installed the beta 2.6beta and it does it with that too. I am using a .4mm Nozzle, and 1.75mm filament. The values are set in the printer setup. The steps/mm are set in firmware and it does extrude what I tell it. The wall thicknesses are supposed to be .4mm, but are coming out 1.1mm abouts. Something is severely over extruding. Could it be a software bug? Some setting somewhere behind the scenes that is stuck at a large value causing over extrusion?
  9. .3 initial layer thickness doesn't really matter. The line width is WAY thicker than it's supposed to be. So if feedbis 100% and extruder is calibrated for proper steps/mm, what would cause this huge layer width on the first layer?
  10. Ok, Im back at it. I thought I had it, but something else came up, and I realized I didnt have it. Im having trouble understanding just what should be happening on a first layer and I am hoping someone here can help clear it up, and maybe steer me in the right direction to nail this first layer. In Cura, I have set .25mm layer height, .25mm layer First layer height, and wall thickness at .4mm. So what I did was laid down a single line on the table and stopped the print. If I am understanding this correctly, this single line should be .25mm thick(in Z height), and .4mm thick spread out on the table....correct? Since I have to wait for a response, I am going to assume it is correct. What I really have though is .25mm thick(in Z Height), and 1.245mm thick spread out on the table. I have checked my extruder. I fed out 6" of filament, and I was only off .4% over 6", so I know its not perfect, but its pretty close. I dont think I am over extruding by a bad steps/mm setting. What else am I missing?
  11. I completely understand, and was actually half joking. I will contact the ones who created the files and get their permission for the sake of furthering cura. I would not think they would have a problem sharing 2 files since it takes many many to build the whole thing.

  13. They were purchased online by a coworker and the files were given to me to print. So a direct download link is not possible. They would have to be uploaded to a free share site of some sort, which I dont really know because I normally just email files. Does this forum allow upload of .stl files? Maybe a PM with an email where I can send them to?
  14. Butchered as in it took the original model which had a small slit in the side and some inner support structures, and turned it into a complete solid, removing all that stuff. It may have printed, but it would not be what the original model was supposed to be. And I was using the Free Pro Trial with the best healing option they had. I am using Cura 2.5.0 This is what I am speaking about. Individual models are fine, but multiple ones cura bugs out. XRayed and Sliced XRayed and Sliced Now when you put both on the table: All the insides ignored I dont really know how to share the files. Some help on that please.
  15. That service butchered the model, so thats a no go. I should note that cura "Some times" will slice correctly. It just happened where a brought in a model and it sliced wrong. I closed it , came back later, and it sliced the model fine. I would say thats a bug.
  16. I have tried a few slicers. Cura seems in my opinion to be the best out of all them. It looks nice, slices nice, produces nice prints, and best of all its free. I recently started to print these model air planes that is a complete thin wall project. It sees cura does a great Job at it.....when only slicing one object at a time. When two or more models are on the table, cura will seem to ignore the inner parts of the models. But not all the time. It may be how the models are created too though, but I dont have access to that, only the .stl files. Is this a known issue? Will it ever be fixed? Is there a way to force it to work? Am I doing something wrong?
  17. Thats my point, it doesnt make sense in my head to show the object placement as XY(0) when at the center of the software table if you have to specify Printer coordinates to adjust z seam. It would be mor logical to to have it one way or the other. Being that the software makes you use Printer coordinates, it would make more sense to show the object location in reference to the printer coordinates. This is just me, and its my opinion, and opinions are like farts, everyones got some.
  18. It appears there is a bug maybe in how it is implemented. Even though the object placed on the table shows as having coordinates as XYZ (0), The Z Seam XY pos seems to be referenced from the XY(0) of the table from the lower left corner. SO an object placed in the center of the table, if I wanted a z-seam on the Y(-) side of the part, and my table was X(250mm) Y(200mm), I need to give the mid way coordinate of my X or 125mm, and a Y coordinate of 0mm. That way it picks a spot on the part that is closest to X125Y0, it will always be on the Y(-) side of the part. Want it on the X(-) side? Use X0Y100 Want it on the Y(+) Side? Use X125Y200 Its not perfect on where it places it on them coordinates, but its pretty close to being straight up the side Its based on the size of the table you have specified in your printer setup. Different size tables will need different values.
  19. I Noticed my nozzle tip was slightly off level. I must have damaged it when hacking on it a while back. I got a nice new flat one and its printing like a dream. First layer is flawless! I had no idea such a small defect could cause so many problems. Wish I had a pic to show, I tossed it already, but it wasn't that far off. If you brought the tip to Z0, and looked at the gap between the tip and table, you could see about a .003 gap. Sure is not much, but it made a big problem.
  20. A Picture is worth a thousand words. I just dont know what this is telling me. I am still new to 3d printing, and I dont speak this pictures language. I am trying to get a good first layer, but I always see this when creating a brim or skirt with more than a few lines. The first few lay down good, then the rest start to bubble and peal uo from the table like in the pic. Can someone help me diagnose this? I have calibrated my table as best I can, I have calibrated the extruder. Temp is yet to be dialed in, but its close to normal for PLA, around 190, Bed is at 65. Printing on glass, cleaned with alcohol. I always see this garbage, and it bugs me. Once I get past this first layer, it prints relatively good.

  22. Can you tell me where this setting is located? I cant seem to find it.
  23. Is it possible to auto insert a G92 into the start code when a certain filament is selected? I print nylon on something i place on the table, and so if I select nylon, i would like it to auto add a G92 into the code to shift my origin. Currently I manually edit the code once its saved, but I would like to streamline it.
