  1. The idea of many materials may be interesting but CURA appeared to have been suffocated. In my case (am I the only one?), the full set is too heavy, too  bulky and totally unnecessary.

Now, in addition to the 30% gain at startup, it's such a pleasure to rediscover a flexible and efficient CURA 4.5.

Ouf ( in french in the text  🙂 ), I would be so sorry to discover CURA going down.

  2. To gain visibility by displaying only the full name of the profile used, be able to choose not to display in the small window concerned irrelevant details such as %infill, layer height, etc..

The choice could be made simply via a check box in «preference-> configure Cura»

May be could it  be a plugin ?

    Tks

  3. As usual, super  @ahoeben. I whish you an happy new year with all my thanks for your wonderful Cura input.

May be also the material_display_name  because some parameters  inside the profil are specific to each filament even if they are all PLA ( ie T°, speed, ... ) .

  4. He,

I did not dare try the solution of GH which seems too complex for me.

By the way, what do you means by 'logs" ? ( I enclosed  3mf and profiles Cura 4.40 and Cura 4.3.0)

I found a solution  in the forum :

well, my problem was not at start, but  I made the following, based on his suggestion :
norton -> pare feu -> controle programme -> ajouter ( add a new program autorisation) -> selected CURA 4.4.0 and gave full autorisation.
the reaction speed of this beautifull program has greatly improved, even if it is not a "speedy gonzales".

  5. He,

I just installed the new release.

Not any crash at opening but  program freezes (« not responding »)  during  10 à to 20 seconds at each action / profile param value update, insert or delete or move any item on the build plate, record profile, etc. Loading a project is so so slow.

I do not have any of these problems with my current 4.3.0  version fortunately still active.

    Spectre, Win 10 family 64 bits, Intel I7 6500 CPU, 8Go

    Active printer : MK2

    sorry

  6. He,

I print with 0.2 and 0.15 nozzles with CURA 4.0.0. The few cool filament remaining in the nozzle at start tends to generate on  the next print an under-extrusion or worse a clogging. I eliminate this problem  by extruding -before each new print- 5cms at the first layer temperature + 15 °c.

In the same spirit, I fully retract the filament at the end of each print : G1 E-160 F600 … again with an extrudeur T° set at first layer temperature +15°.

It works perfectly and I have no more worries.

I set both higher T° manually in my start/end g_codes but have to update them  at each first layer T° change (filament change).

In the start/end g_code, the formula  M104 S {material_print_temperature_layer_0}  to obtain a T ° equal to the first layer T° defined in CURA 4.0.0 profile works fine.

But how to increase it by + 15 ° ?

    I tried unsuccessfully various formulas: M104 S{material_print_temperature_layer_0 + 15} or M104 S {material_print_temperature_layer_0    +15}, or M104 S{(material_print_temperature_layer_0) +15} or M104 S {material_print_temperature_layer_0 * 1.1}

    None works.

    Any suggestion ?

    Many tks

    Philippe

  7. Tests with different values for the  adaptive layers threshold parameter.

We print our locomotive with 0.081 layers. it's good, although some too small details are not printed optimally. With layers of 0.05, the details are improved, but the overall quality seems less good. The use of adaptive layers is therefore an excellent solution. Congratulations to ctbeke.

I found   this post  and  this other post

Well, I did not found a mathematically understandable answer to my above question, but I understood how to set up this superb function.

    In my case :

    Layer height : 0.081

    initial layer height : 0.16

Adaptative layer maximum variation : 0.03 which allow layers from 0.051 till  0.111

    Adaptative layers variation step size : 0.012   ( = 0.051, 0.063, 0.075, 0.087, ………..     0.087 , 0.099 , 0.111)

I then performed tests with different values of the "adaptive layers threshold" to compare the results with a print made either only with 0.081 layers (20H46) or with 0.05 (33H03).

The result shows a variation of the layers height (and therefore the duration) not constant. I have summarized it in the table below.

After a visual study, we decided to use for this model a value of 500, which generate this slicing :

  8. He,

into this beautiful slicer, there is a parameter "adaptive layers treshold" with a default value set at 200.0 .

At which angle corresponds this value ?

is it tan(angle) =  0.2 which means an angle of +- 11.5°  ?  Just to clarify,  in such a case,  a switch angle of 45° should be set at 1000.0   because  tan(45°) = 1.0. Correct ?

    many tks.

  9. Many tks for your answser with your helpfull feedback. Congratulations for yours prints..... We also have to face with the macro pictures distorsions.

We are printing with an 0.15mm nozzel with a layer heigth of 0.08mm. This work well too :

To fix the ideas for the duckboard  the rectangular holes are 0.36mm x 0.36mm and the solid part between two holes to a width of 0.274mm. His thickness  is 0.374mm. The filament used is a PLA PREMIUM from 3DONLINE.

our discussion between us was about the CURA process :

Any idea how does CURA react on the flow if we reduce the line width by 10% as per their recommandations ?

some said that the flow is automatically reduced by 10%, others said that Cura do not impact on the flow  when changing this  line width  setting ?

    Many tks

    Philippe

  10. He,

I am printing with a 0.15mm nozzel and I am a little be lost to improve the print quality.

CURA 4.0.0 recommend to "slightly reducing the line width value could produce a better print".

a/ How does CURA react on the flow if I reduce the line width by 10% ? by reducing the flow by 10% , with no change on the flow ? with ????

    b/ why could I expect a quality improvement ?

    many thanks for your input.

    Philippe

  11. I have an Anycubic I3 mega and a MK3S. I connect both without any problem via USB ( Windows 10 family version 1809)  under Pronterface.

I am out till end of the week. when back, I will check under CURA with your wonderfull Sidebar GUI. ( Did I say tks for it ?)
