  1. So it's a different issue then. The previous poster had it set to 1 (1%) but thought it was 100%.

So are you seeing it retract and extrude perfectly (gear moves) but when it prints the gear doesn't move at all?

Or are you seeing something different?

I'm seeing the same thing. When it goes to print the gear isn't moving. Or rather, its moving, an extremely tiny amount.

When I use my older version of Cura, I can print just fine. I can print just fine with other slicers too.

My filament flow is set to 100% but acts as though its set to 1%.

  2. Had some questions about assembly.

Do I have to replace all the wood on the head? Or can I get away with just changing certain pieces (like the top and bottom).

Any tips on pulling out the old thermocouple and cartridge heater from the old aluminium block? Should I heat it up before trying to remove?

If there's anything you found to watch out for, or anything to make my life easier, please let me know.

  3. No, you got it wrong - it just means, that you need to order more frequent, thereby speeding up the release cycles at Ultimaker Ltd. :D

Just imagine, with just 2 orders from you a month, we would get over 20 improvements a year! Mindboggling!

Great idea! Except I'd basically have to give my house to DHL for what the shipping costs! :D If they had a north american distributor I could make that happen though!

And @ Ian & Troy: I would be very eager for a heated bed!

  4. I should have known they'd release something. They always do right after I order!! Same thing happened when I ordered the Ulticontroller, soon as it was out the door the new knurled bolt came out.

Not blaming Ultimaker crew; this is typical bad luck for me. But if anyone wants them to release something new, let me know and I'll put in an order.

  5. Guys, I'm as pro-3d printer and anti-DRM as they come. But I think you are jumping the non-3d-printed|gun on a few things:

    - The US Patent Office doesn't have the ability to ask for special software to be installed anywhere. Think about it. The US Patent Office is for... granting patents. It is not legislative, executive or anything else. Just patents.

    - One company having patents on DRM doesn't mean its suddenly a law that's been enforced. In fact, it means that now no other companies are allowed to develop that DRM. That would make it a stumbling block in the development of DRM rather than something that makes it easier!

    - There are many ways to make a gun that don't require a 3d printer. For example, machine shops could make a way better gun than any 3d printer could, and it could do the parts that can't be 3d printed. Hell, go on Google and type in "can you make a gun out of wood"; first hit is a Youtube tutorial on how to do it. This is something I've pointed out to people who do the "3d printers can MAKE GUNS" argument; they don't even realize that wood working tools can do the same thing, for a fraction of the price!

I think its something we should be vigilant for, but I don't think that the DRM patent is something to get worked up about.

  6. I would like to thank Ultimaker for looking into their shipping and seeing about cutting the cost of some items.

What would be really nice though, is if you had distributors in other parts of the world. Our local hackerspace ended up declining the purchase of an Ultimaker due to the amount of cash that would be spent on shipping.

I've been feeling the pinch myself, I completely hesitate on purchasing from Ultimaker unless its a group buy, otherwise the shipping is just brutal.

Any chance of international distributors in the future?

  7. I've tried two Kinect-based ones on Windows, Reconstructme and KScan3D.

Reconstructme worked well, when I had hardware it was OK with. Unfortunately it was completely incompatible with my two laptops. KScan3D didn't perform as well, but it was more hardware friendly -- as its just come out I'm sure it has been refined a bit.

I was planning on playing with the David Scanner stuff this winter.

All of these are closed source. Reconstructme is free for noncommercial use and the others all have trial licenses.

  8. 5) Not sure what you mean with a Z-Probe.

Zee aliens are going to use zee probe on you Daid, run! :D

At a guess I think destroyer meant a probe to assist in levelling the bed. Just a guess though.

Why can't 1 and 4 be together? I would love it if I had a second wheel for levelling the bed. I don't really want to move at tenths of a millimeter when I have to move to each corner of the bed.

  9. My wife has started to do some 3d design. She's been working with Google Sketchup (or Trimble Sketchup or whatever it is called now). However I have had some problems turning Sketchup stuff into STL -- tried various STL plug-ins but they don't always work; tried to use meshlab to convert some and it just crashes half the time.

I don't have much experience beyond Sketchup and OpenSCAD. I'm looking for some recommendations to try, based on the following criteria:

    - Works on Windows or Linux.

    - Works well with a Wacom tablet.

    - Preferably something open source, but we're not shy about buying software either.

    - If its not free, it should have a trial period so we can test before buying.

    Any suggestions?
