They are but the guides dont cover the cables where the pulleys are

To be honest I'm more concerned around the cabling that is run on the inside of the build area, particularly from the end stop switches. They have a tendancy to want to unravel and then touch the toothed pulleys, is there something I can do about that?

I'm no expert but i'd say that the bottleneck here is the mechanics , keep on pushing them and you'll end up with stretching belts jumping sprockets but I'm open to someone putting me straight!

but a tutorial would be nice, there are lots of new buttons and settings to play with, even just a quick overview to say what each does then you could apply that to your own particular problem :idea:

mmmm.... I don't have that screen, the main screen has File ,normal mode and help tabs, the print screen has temp, jog, speed and term tabs, and there is a preference setting which seems to have everything except retraction settings. By the way, my cura shows version 12.11, yours shows 12.10 :?

I've heard people going on about setting retraction on the extruder ,where in Cura is this option?
Is there a cura tutorial anywhere to help out :?

Does the setpoint change or just the temperature? if the setpoint changes then its software, if the setpoint stays the same then there must be a problem with the heater/cabling/thermocouple

Tried it with the vase setting and it worked. I just don't understand why it was printing solid in the other settings? surely the fact it is solid or hollow is set within the code for the shape and is not up for interpretation by the machine??

I would notice after a few layers as my first attempt was filling in the base , if I dont see the sides appearing after about 5mm then I would assume that it was printing a solid again.

I've not measured the filament yet so I'm using the default 2.89mm setting. I've borrowed a vernier from work today so that i can set it up correctly when I get home.

Thanks for that , I'm using Cura so I've not got those settings available so all I can use is the vase setting. will that on its own give me a hollow print or do i need to do something else?

It maybe that the peek just emits more IR giving you a false reading. You need to double check it with a contact measurement before you can trust the IR camera. thats the problem with the IR cameras that I've used, you have to use the same emisivity level for the whole picture which is OK if all of the parts you are looking at are all the same material/colour otherwise they are very misleding and cannot be trusted.

However I stopped the print when it had got to be 12mm high because I was convinced that it was just going to print a solid block instead of a cup. The downloaded picture in cura does look to be solid yet the item description is that it is hollow. any ideas?

I've just had a few issues but I think they are plastic related rather than machine. I tried a cup off thingyverse but it was ripped off the bed after 2 layers. A reset on the bed level/z home and slowing the print speed for the first 5 layers sorted that, then I've been slowly cranking up the speed. How fast can you go? at 130% at the mo

I've just loaded the test cube, used all of the default values and set the temp to 215 degc and its perfect! No slipping , squewing , odd noises or anything, only a 20mm cube and the smell of melting plastic. Am I just lucky or is this the way it generally is?

By fan I meant the fan assembly, that is spaced off with the white spacers and it touches the board before the screws tighten.

I used the black (as per the assembly photo) for the base board to circuit board and white for the cicuit board to fan. The circuit board seems to be too close to the base by about 3mm and the fan assembly fouls the circuit board by the same amount.

spot on, the yellow thermocouple wasn't in properly! thanks
just another question, on the circuit board, the black spacers dont seem to be long enough as the board flexes as the back touches the base of the machine when tightening the screws and the top spacers for the fan unit also seem short?

I've just finished building, I've downloaded and installed cura. I've connected the machine to my computer, the Cura then updated my firmware, then when I've gone to the machine checks it says failed on communications 'failed to establish connection with the printer , communication state 0, extruder switched.....'
any ideas?

Looks like I've hit this common problem of the Z guides being about 3-4 mm too narrow for the guide rods. I forced them in but the tabs on the left side of the table popped out. I just about got them back in but the plates either side of the z nut are loose. I noticed that this is a common issue so why hasn't the hole spacing being altered on the top and bottom frame sections by the Ultimaker team? :x
Any ideas on how to firm up the framework around the Z nut guys?

Ok all, thanks. Nearly finished now, just got complete the extruder from fitting the fan and the build platform install, drive and electronics, then blast off!
