Finally got around to cleaning up the Happy Corner!

If all goes as planned, the rest of my parts will arrive this week and I can attempt to get it working. I think I spent more time modifying this printer to my liking than the original build took. I just hope everything works as planned. Here are some more pics of the way I mounted the spool holder & Extruder motor. I had to design a custom mount for the motor to sit in the position I wanted and at the right distance from the extrusion. The filament will go right from the spool to the extruder with about 4-6 inches in between.

This is how the modified iRobert's Spool Holder came out. I just love his design. I used 608 bearings with a custom mounting bracket for the extrusion and I used 1/4" all-thread with a custom spacer.

Just as the topic says. I know different manufacturers use different size holes for the ID & OD of the actual plastic spool that holds the filament. I haven't used Colorfab's filaments yet. I plan on buying a bunch of Colorfab filaments in 1.75mm and need to know the exact dimensions for my custom spool holder which needs to be accurate. Can anyone post here of the fixed or various dimensions?

Yes, I was the one building a Tantillus, but since have redirected over to the 3DR Delta Printer. After assembling the full printer I realized how much I didn't like it.

I got my hardware at http://www.albanycountyfasteners.com/default.asp this is the best place to get any quantity you need at a good price and free shipping. I have ordered motors, bearings, & others from ebay and http://www.robotdigg.com/ I ordered the electronics kit from Amazon seller 3DPrintingUSA which included everything needed for $129.00 (RAMPS 1.4 + MEGA 2560 R3 + SD Reader + 4 x A4988+ Wiring Kit) For the rods your best bet is McMaster Carr and then cut them to length. I used a dremel & grinder I scrapped this project because it was very difficult to work on this printer and so enclosed that my big hands and fingers had a hard time working on it. I am now building the Richrap 3DR Delta Printer from the same parts.

Well, the Ramps mount I designed didn't work because the Ramps sits way to low with the LCD cables attached, which directly effects the moving parts. I had to sacrifice the spool holder and mount the Ramps on top. I figured it's probably time to design a spool holder with bearings that mounts on the side of the printer, which is fed directly into the extruder. It doesn't look as nice as the original design, but I really like having the electronics accessible. I was ready to finish the build this weekend, but I forgot to order some 4mm threaded T-slot nuts for the pulley system at the top. I'm really surprised at how sturdy this printer is once it's together. Here are some pics of my progress:

I've decided to go with simplicity. This one was on Thingiverse. It's perfect as long as it works.

Which extruder option are you both using? I really want to use the one that Rich provided, but I must be missing something. It says M8 Hobbed bolt, but not the length or where to find one. I was also reading about Greg's Hinged Kit on Makerfarm and how that one can be used. I don't want to order stuff I won't need.

I made the adapter with 2 pegs that fit directly into the existing screw holes and used some E6000 adhesive to get it to stick for life. It's not coming back off.

Can be found here: http://printinz.com/ Since this build plate arrived, I no longer use the factory glass plate on my UM2. 8 months and over 100 prints and the plastic still has the same adhesion as when I first got it. I don't see any sign of wear or warping. All of my print times are cut way down because the heated bed is never used and the prints start within a minute instead of 5-8 minutes. I will be ordering another one soon for my 3DR Build which won't require a heated bed. I'm also looking for other options , but this build plate seems to be one of the best out there. Anyone have any input about some other build plate material that might have the same effect? I would like to have one that's more colorful.

Yeah the mount is close, hopefully it will work as planned. The Hall End Stops I purchased from reprapdiscount were different than the ones shown on the website and also different from the ones shown on the Richrap blog. I guess these are a newer version. They were quite a bit smaller as you can see in the pic. I had to make a small adapter to mount them properly. I also decided to design a custom mount for the Ramps Board since I didn't like the choices available. It mounts directly to the 3 screws that hold the center triangle in place. Here's how it looks together with a few 4mm spacers to set the board at the level I want for the connectors. I could have finished the build this weekend, but there are still a few items on the way. Like always, I'm waiting on the bearings. BTW, did you get yours going Nicolinux?

This RichRap 3DR Delta Printer is kinda neat and easy to build, although it's not a huge build size. I'm currently building this one along with a couple others here on the forums. I've always wanted a UM original.

I finally got most of my parts so I have plenty to do this weekend. Here's how the effector came out This is just a test print which turned out perfect. it's the same exact dimensions as the one Rich designed for the 3DR so there's no need to change settings for the dimensions in Marlin. My desk is so ridiculously messy atm with all the new parts and hardware for this printer.

Which electronics are you both using? I have a Mega 2560 & 1.4 Ramps sitting around with Pololu Stepper Drivers. I'm not gonna buy another board when I can just make an adapter to mount what I have. Did you get you printer working yet Jonny?

Wow, I didn't realize you had everything going already! It's gotta be really exciting to get it going. At least you have experience with clogs and know how to deal with them. That video should be mandatory for all printers using a bowden tube with squeeze connectors. I had to do that very same thing with both my Ultimakers. I'm gonna be bothering you a couple weeks from now, since you know first hand what it takes to get this printer going. Post some pics of your build when you get a chance.

How are you mounting the hotend? I have a design that I'll post here, that is made of 3 parts and will still use the original fan. Just need to figure out the best way to connect everything together. I designed it to give more Z axis movement with how close the nozzle is to the effector. This is the first basic version which will most likely be modified.

Thanks Nicolinux....I just got done ordering my carbon rods, ball joints, and an E3D Hotend. I know I said I was gonna stick to the original build, but there are a couple items I'm changing. The hotend, rod couplers, motor spools, and extruder are getting upgraded/changed. Haven't yet decided on which extruder I'm gonna use. The black anodized extrusions are otw as well.

Which length of 3mm rods are you guys using from eye hole to eye hole for the carriage to the bearing mount? I'm having a hard time finding the correct length.

I was wondering if I could get some help finding out the exact specifications for these motors I have laying around collecting dust. I have spent at least 2 hours surfing the net and the manufacturers website, without any luck. I'm trying to find out if these can supply the necessary amperage (1.7A or more) to use with the 3DR Delta Printer I'm currently building. It would be nice to know before attaching all the cables and plastic parts. Any help would be much appreciated! :-P

Do you guys know if these steppers would work with this build? I don't have any info on them except for the numbers listed on the pic and they seem like older model Minebea Motors. I'm having a hard time finding the correct literature on them. Also, where did you get your steppers from? Fit the motors and put the pieces together with the hardware I had laying around. This design is super nice!

I plan on building it the same as Rich, then possibly toying with a few other ideas once it's working. Post some pics of your progress when you get a chance. Rich seems to have many projects going on constantly, so I would assume patience plays a huge role with this project.

Alright.....you guys have sparked my interest with this 3DR Delta Printer. I have been reading all of RichRap's posts and github files. I Just started printing the 3 base pieces and plan on using most of my parts from the Tantillus build that I never got around to finishing. I like how the 3DR is put together. It seems like a much easier build than the tantillus and way easier to mess with. Besides that, I'm really impressed with his progress.
