Facci sapere ...

Hi,
what I can say now, after over nine month of usage, is that the Fan Base UM2 by Zetoff work very well and I'm very satisfied with the results
Adding, ad described, a little metal shield (... from a beer can ) , I don't have had any problem of deformation due to temperature of the hot-end
Certainly I recommend it!
Only one negative point ... to mount and dismount ... you have to remove the fans first ... :(

I never understand why I have to do a new "bed leveling" if I only change the firmware version ...
Guglielmo
-
... when i changed it to copy-material.txt i think ...
Are you sure ?
Or maybe ... you call it "material-copy.txt" ?
Because in a 8.3 file system material.txt and material-copy.txt ... are the same file and, probably, the firmware see only the oldest one

P.S. : Daid explained this in another thread ... HERE

A search on "Octoprint" does not yield discussions in this forum as you claim. There are only a couple of posts where the word "Octoprint" is mentioned, and that is about it.
The post you sent me to is in French! Even though I can read and understand French still fairly well, don't you think, that if I were comfortable participating in a technical discussion in French I would have posted in that forum?
Oops, it's true, I'm sorry but speaking English, French and Italian I follow all three sections and sometimes I mix things ...
Anyway ... searching on Google give many results ... but the end is still the same :
You can use "Octoprint" with UM2 but NOT using UltiGCode (... which is not supported by Octoprint). You have to switch Cura to produce Reprap (marlin/sprinter) GCode and you have customize the "Starting" and "Ending" GCode.

very happy with this new firmware feature; http://umforum.ultimaker.com/index.php?/topic/5228-feature-request-allow-to-uploadrename-material-profiles/?p=84343
Yes ... totally agree ...

if this is impossible, why can Octoprint read and write to the SD over USB?
Yes, this is true, but is also true that the speed is limited to 250 Kbps ... which is 25 Kbytes/sec ... if you have a big print ... good luck

If you "search" in the forum you can find may discussions on Octoprint and UM2 ... e.g. HERE

I'm very happy with the 14.12.1 and, finally, the temperature is really stable ... +/- 1° (... with 14.09 I had fluctuations of +/- 10°).
I read that few other people have had problems ... but I think due the heaterblock and the heater cartridge. You can find some discussions in "Cura" section on the forum

Me too because of the ease of inserting and removing filament and also no more issues with grinding after the upgrade.
Very satisfied.

I am also using the Fan Base UM2 at the moment (like gpp01) and i switched back the max. fan speed to its normal settings (100%) without any problem.
IMHO the direction of the ventilation fits better with the derivative variant - nevertheless i still dont't like the huge logo...
Yes, if the logo was smaller and in a corner ... it would be much better
BTW: i printed it with Formfutura FlexiFil - although i could not find any informations about the glass transition temperature - it seems very temperature resitant so far (much better than the colorfabb XT i used before).
Mmmm ... I made in PLA and I put the aluminum shield (... made from a can of beer ) in the space provided ... it's now 1 month that I print without any problem and any fan base deformation, more ... prints are very good !

How long does it normally take for UM's Support to answer? 36h without no reply and the weekend right in front of us...
36 hours ?
... sorry, I don't want to be unkind ... it's just a joke
You know, I see answer to ticket also ... after one week and more ... unfortunately ... :(
Do a tour of the forum and you'll see ...

Do you see my fan support ? I think that with mine (... which is an evolution of what you're using) ventilation is higher and, I repeat, I have no problems, so ... maybe the problem is in the heater/heaterblock ... do you read about the 21W and 27W heater ?
I don't know but ... if you have the 21W and not a perfect thermal contact (... have you tried putting some thermal grease, like http://www.ebay.it/itm/111238367541 one between the heater and the heaterblock ?) ... maybe the strong ventilation can become a problem ...

darkdvd, I use https://www.youmagine.com/designs/fan-base-um2 fan support with the new firmware and I have NO problems (both on short or on very long prints), so ... your problem should come from somewhere else.
Did you read the Daid info starting from http://umforum.ultimaker.com/index.php?/topic/8634-curas-1412-firmware-is-screwing-my-um2/&do=findComment&comment=82720 ?

Faites attention ... "Artic Silver" ne est pas fait pour des températures si haut :
Extended Temperature Limits:
Peak: –50°C to >180°C
Long-Term: –50°C to 130°C
Operation Temperature: -50 ~300°C

Mmm ... I can only suppose that 3 or 3.05 ... is the same ... if you reach and go over 3.1 ... probably you have problems, so ... you have to try.
Only one suggestion ... do not be discouraged, sometimes it is not a problem in diameter, but the filament !
I lost at least 10 hours of work before being able to get some great prints with the ESUN filament, but once I found the right parameters, I've had no problems
Guglielmo
-
I received a present this morning: 3 mm clear pla filament. Is it correct to assume this will not work properly in the printer ?
I don't think so ...
It's now 3 weeks that I use the ESUN 3mm PLA filaments and, after an initial difficulty figuring out how to set the parameters of "Cura" (... not an easy job with ESUN filaments ), now I have the perfect prints (...and I've done some print for more than 24 hours).

Download the last version of http://software.ultimaker.com/ (14.12.1), connect the USB cable and update the firmware. The new version fixes many problems ...

You can also do this easily in Cura:
Go to advanced tab and cut off object bottom to where you want to split. Save to gcode
WOW ... thanks Didier ... I have always ignored this
Guglielmo
-
if this is the object your printing: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:437382 i think splitting the print might be a bit overkill....
+1 , difficult to split, best to use supports maybe created with ... MeshMixer which I like ... just for the supports

Why did the filament break?
in Materials & profiles
Posted · Edited by Guest
Before you throw away the whole spool, have you tried
Guglielmo
P.S.: The video is really horrible, so ... be patient. Many people have tried it and they say it works. I also read that, after a few days, the filament back to brittle, but, in any case, it is worth making an attempt
