Hi,
I'm going to rearrange and upgrade my spool holder/feeder system, for dual extrusion and ease of access. I've been looking at this kind of models: https://www.youmagine.com/designs/universal-stand-alone-filament-spool-holder-fully-3d-printable
Is a low friction spool holder a good upgrade, and do you notice a difference in prints quality?
How about the dust filter? That look quite effective.
Also, I'm going to mount my spools about 1 meter above the printer, which also means about 1m away from the feeder motor. Will this "long" distance affect the print in a negative way?
Thanks for any answers

I see, thanks!
I actually hadn't thought about the less volume to cool bit

Thanks for your comment and help!
I've now tried printing with a temp of 205C, and that seemed to help a bit. I also increased the minimal layer time to 10sec.
A next one I would print with a finer layer, 0.1mm. It is a steep overhang, so give the printing filament a base to hold on to.
Wouldn't 0.2mm layer height give it more give more of a base to hold on to, or am I thinking wrong?
Oh and yes, PLA will surely fail sooner than other materials, but this duct is just a temporary one as I'm installing a second extruder soon

Hello guys!
I'm in need of some help with analyzing and calibrating my Ultimaker Original (with heated bed).
The issue:
Top view:
Here you can see that some of the layers are not touching.
Left side view (fan is on this side):
Right side view:
Bottom view:
Here you can see that near the top (the round part at the bottom in this picture) there's something weird going on.
Print settings:
Material: PLA
Layer height: 0.2
Shell thickness: 0.8
Bottom/top thick.: 0.8
Fill density: 100%
Print speed: 50mm/s
Temp: 210C
Bed temp: 50C
Diam: 2.85
Flow: 100
Retraction speed: 40
Ret. Dist. : 5mm
What I have checked so far:
- The short belts are tight, and are not grinding against the walls.
- All the pulleys are tight.
- Filament is measured.
- Bed is leveled.
- Room should be "breeze free".
Could you guys help me with this?

I sure do need some assistance. I PM'ed you

I feel your pain bro. Like i posted in another post, I'm having some trouble of my own, with not getting answers nor support.
I hope Ultimaker are just having some problems or something. Or maybe there was so much work with the America launch or Make Faire. I hope those could be the reason.
I see Ultimaker as a great company, and sincerely hope they get this all sorted out and continue being as great as they can be, asap.

I too am having some issues. I ordered an UM Original on the 2th September, along with a dual extruder and lots of filement. Paid it the same day and it's been Ready ever since, and i get that, because they said the lead time would be 4 weeks. But last week I called to see if i could get it upgraded to the plus model and they said they would contact me. Well now its over a week ago. I also contacted some here on the forum, but no reply yet :(
Low friction spool holders, and dust filters

I see your point. I have built a box around the printer, and i have it on the floor. Therefore it would make changing the filament easier with the holders on top. I would the direct the filament throigh aom tubing, in a way that makes it enter the feeder from the bottom.
Ofcourse I could lift up the whole box, and have the filament beneath.
