  1. It does not run on my MacBook Retina with MacOS High Sierra 10.13.3

     

    When I try to start it, I can see the splash screen until "...loadind scenes", then it opens some confirmation page and immediately exits without trace.

     

    Can I help with some logfiles? Where to find?

    Same annoying graphics problem for me: MacOS and Cura 3.2 as well as Cura 3.2.1

    The problem did show up in an earlier (pre 3.1) version of Cura, but does not happen with Cura 3.1.

    As you guys suggested, I played around with the settings and as it turned out, the retraction setting was the culprit for the seam. I disabled it and set the layer height to 0.4mm, speed 25mm/sec, inreased the extruder temperature to 210°C and voila! (Compare before/after version in the photo)

    Yes, besides the seam it looks nice. Going up a bit with the extruder temp seems to help avoiding the faults, as well as reducing the print speed.

    But how can I get rid of the seam when using the AA0.8 nozzle?

     

    Will try to dive into the g-code and compare the .4 and .8 codes. Maybe that could help to understand what's happening here.

     

     

    Btw., I'm using Filamentworld PLA clear (PLA300XCLR). It comes on a bigger spool, which makes it impossible to put another spool on the UM3 spool holder. And yes, I printed and tried the alternative spool holder, but am not satisfied with the construction. So I changed back to the UM3 genuine holder.

    Yes the z-scar or whatever it is strange because I do not think the print head has any travel moves in spiralize; something to do with an 0.8mmnozzle I wonder. Certainly not a problem I ever experienced. 

     

    No idea if you are an expert with a .8mm nozzle, remember you are pushing out twice as much material per sec. so you may want to do some testing with a simple cube to get the extruder temp spot on.

    Seems the problem with the faults in the walls goes away with reduced print speed, so this should not be a problem any more.

     

    I have attached a photo with different samples, the evolution goes from left to the right side. Parts 1, 2 and 7 (from left to right) were printed with the AA0.8 nozzle and all of them have a seam. I tried this with 0.8, 0.4 and 0.2mm layer size, no change. During printing you can see that the print stops shortly at every complete layer. This is independent from the retraction setting (on or off).

     

    The objects 3, 4, 5 adn 6 (from left to right) were printed with the AA0.4 nozzle. After reducing the print speed they all came out perfectly, without any seam. The printing was one continuous spiral. Layer size 0.2.

     

    So basically one question remains: is it possible to use the spiralized mode, without a seam, with the 0.8mm nozzle and what are the required settings?

  8. I'm trying to learn how to use the the spiralized mode. Not satisfied yet, because I expected that there would be no seam, but there is one, see image.

     

    What am I doing wrong? And what is causing the other faults in the surface?

     

    Material used: PLA

    Temperature: 220°C

    AA 0.8mm print core

     

    Cura 3.1 and 3.2.1.

  11. This is a Tractrix horn that I constructed with Fusion 360 (imported calculated data) and printed with Cura on my UM3.

     

    At the back side of the horn a tweeter is going to be mounted and the whole stuff will become part of a stereo audio system (I made two of them for a friend of mine who is an audio fanatic).

     

    Material: Ice PLA, colour "Glamorous Gold", printed with 0.8 nozzle and some PVA support.

  12. It seems that I do need to replace the (UM3) print head cable, as the 18 error raised its ugly head again a couple of times (interestingly right after aborting a print job, like Kortben described above).

    I already bought a replacement cable at my own cost, but am not sure how to replace it, because I didn't find out how to open/remove the right hand side stepper motor cover sheet which also hides the print head cable leading down to the electronics pcb. Any hints?

    Yes, because of problems with extruder 1 I printed the model with extruder 2.

    As you saw, I changed the setting for extruder 1 instead of extruder 2. Wasn't aware that the infill can be set separately, stupid me.

    Thanks for pointing that out!

    From the image you attached, it looks like you are modifying the Infill Density setting of Extruder 1, yet your model is being printed by Extruder 2. :D

  14. The problems have been with two different Print Cores (0.4 and 0.8 ), but always in the same slot (#1, left side as seen from the front). I always double-checked the proper seating of the Print Cores ("click" after insert) and also checked the cable connection on the print head side, which didn't show any obvious problem.

    Regarding the logfiles, I would like to send them to you via wetransfer, but need an email-address, could you please send it to me?

    BTW, to be able to quickly collect the logs I have written a small shell script to run (on MacOS) after a problem occured; maybe it could be helpful for some other person:

    Posting logfiles would be helpful yes. If you use something like wetransfer it allows us to take a peek.

    Also, just out of curiosity, what Print Core are you using? Is it always the same Print Core?

    If you, for example, use AA in both slots, if you change them, what happens: is the error for the same Print Core, or for the same slot?

    Glad to hear it sounds like the issue has been gone for a month. Generally reseating the cable does the trick in most cases.

    Sorry guys, after trying out the Beta again and loading an .stl file it turns out that the font distortion is still there, please see attached image.

    It seems to be somehow random, some characters are ok, some others are not. Sometimes cura starts with fine characters and you have to load a print file or change to "Monitor" before the distortions start.

    (Sorry for the confusion)
