cannot connect UM to PC with Cura

Hi, I am a newby to UM and not a computer expert. I finished UM build and installed Cura (v12-12a). Tried to upgrade firmware to Marlin but PC (a HAF 912 running windows 8) could not find the UM. I tried rebooting PC and reconnecting the USB cable. No luck. I don't know how to try upgrading firmware now since the wizard doesn't give me a window. I went to github Marlin website and I am confused. Should I click the Clone In Windows button to try to get the upgrade? I do not know how to tell if I am missing the USB drivers for the UM. I am not sure also how to get at the error logs with this damn Win 8. :( Cura will load a file like the handle or robot just fine so software install seems OK. Thank you anyone for suggestions. Did you get an error message when installing the USB driver? It seams that the driver cannot installed on a Windows 8 system.
