Really bad nozzle clog

Hello. I had a very long print running, went to bed with the print running fine. I woke up to see the print had lifted off of the glass, clogged the nozzle, and had been ejected from the machine. I was able to remove the nozzle, but there is still a huge block of solid, cooled plastic stuck where it should not be. Any ideas on how to safely remove this without damaging my machine?

(tl;dr: heat up to 50° and over, and remove the filament (if it is PLA) carefully - if not, weep softly and order replacement parts)
