Ooze Shield wrong order of printing

Hi everyone,

i'm completely new to cura but not to 3d printing.

I try to use my snapmaker J1s with cura (latest 5.8.1) but have problems with my first dual color print.

I've monitored the first extruder switch and noticed that the second extruder moves directly to the model and wipes all residing filament on to the model.

The pictures shows the blobb.

The project file is included too.

Please tell me if this is a bug or if there is an option to wipe to the ooze shield when changing the extruder and at the end of the layer (before returning to parking postition).

BR

Gery

The problem might be occurring because Cura doesn't directly support IDEX printers.  They can be made to work but workarounds are often required.  A place like Reddit, or a SnapMaker support site, might be a better place to ask your question.

Is the problem occurring every-other-layer?  Cura will change tools mid-layer in order to cut down the number of tool changes.  The result is that the start of each layer is with the currently active tool (rather than always reverting to T0 to start each layer).   If you enable the Prime Tower the problem may be resolved as the travel path changes.  Another setting to look at is the "Nozzle Switch Retraction Distance".  You have it at your normal retract distance of 1.0.  Maybe increasing it will keep the bubble from forming on the nozzle.

    Thanks for your reply!

Yes this happens at every layer the second extruder is needed.

I will try to increasing retraction, my fear is always a clogged nozzle with higher numbers.

Should i increase retraction volume too?

I tried every slicer with a profile for the J1 and i like Cura most, so i thought a Cura forum would be a good start 😉

With the snapmaker plugin, uploading files to the printer is easier than in snapmakers luban workspace!!!

I keep playing with the various IDEX printers trying to find ways to better integrate them with Cura.  I don't own one so I'm limited to "virtual" printers in Cura and then trying to justify a Cura gcode to a gcode created by the proprietary slicer of the specific IDEX printer.  Fortunately, you do have that SnapMaker plugin.  That's what I've attempted to provide for FlashForge (very difficult) and the Sovol and Raise3D machines (pretty easy).

Good luck with it.  Since UltiMaker doesn't have an IDEX printer in it's product lineup - workarounds and post-processors are a necessity.

It looks like your printer has direct drive extruders.  I understand you don't want to pull the filament way back but creeping the "Nozzle Switch Retraction Distance" upward by 0.5mm at a time, you may find a number that will be enough to eliminate the oozing in the idle extruder while still avoiding a clog in the heat break.
