  1. Have you also posted this in English in the events section.

I know a lot of American and British guys living in Bavaria for example that would be interested in this and the all German text wont catch their attentions.

    Sounds really good.

Maybe a big meeting in Berlin ?

There are massive connection possibility to get to the capital from all around Europe... could get a lot of cool polish guys to come over as well.. not far from the polish border.

    Ian :-)

  2. actually it is something I didnt see at the Ultimaker headquarters.

When you walk around the place.. it is filled with cool prints all over the place. There are really brilliant big prints always beside the reception...

BUT.... they never printed their own office.... That I know of !!

I know they want to keep things quite and keep people away from R and D for obvious reasons... but giving the world a free to download 3d printable model of their headquarters might be a really cool idea.... then people can play around and understand the hive...

  3. I like RC, but I want to keep them small. This is my 1:64 crawler with 4x4 drive and articulated steering.

    crawler.jpg

Most parts are selfmade, only the rims and the 2.4GHz receiver are off-shelf parts.

Perfect for crawling on xmas cakes

Body-off picture - not pretty, but functional

    Crawling in the urban wilderness

you could actually print the body no problem with your ultimaker and maybe even print the big wheels with rubber pla !

    Very cool stuff.

  4. hi guys.

can i ask. has anyone designed a iphone holder that can clip onto the bottom of a steering wheel.

I have a really good new app for speed cameras but I want the screen to be pinned onto my steering wheel so I can see what little nasties are coming up.

I had a quick look around and couldn't find anything.. anyone have this before I start up solidworks ??

    Thanks.

    Gruss Gott aus Bayern

  5. Hay George !!!

    Lovely to hear from you.

Sorry about not being on the forum recently.

The last few weeks with the new job have been crazy and I have been working 11 or 12 hours a day. then sports. food and sleep and now on top of that my girlfriend has 2 weeks holidays and because she is blind and has nothing to do... ie... no real friends.. then she has crashed into my little work apartment and listens to audio books all day. eats cookies and when I come home dead on my feet.... she looks at me and says... what do we do now ?

    I think I don't have a girlfriend... I think iv adopted a blind 6 year old.............. MMMMMMMMM

But shes gone on Friday.. then I have a little time to actually do a little of what I want....

Seriously.... I know living alone is not good... but when god offers you a loving caring... very dependent immature girl as your partner..... so..... life aint a piece of pie all the time...

Just want to get back into 3d modelling and printing and prototyping....... i really miss it... but like you said George... I cant afford to spend hours policing the forum anymore... the day simply doesnt have enough hours....

Also I think Robert is thank god busy working for Daniel in Sweden so I cant imagine him camping out the forum... Simon is also crazy busy with his job expansions at the moment.... Maybe with all the expansions going on in Ultimaker.. they can hire someone to fully time police the forums ?? maybe...

Ok George.. good night and best wishes from Bavaria !!!

    Ian :-)

  6. Hi guys.

I have a little question for you chaps.

Its all lovely us playing with ideas and printing half baked solutions in PLA plastic.

IS or HAS ultimaker sat down since I have been gone and simply designed tested and given out to all existing customers a better feeder ??

If the answer is NO... what do you think of this idea.

I am now working in a large german engineering company specializing in machine construction for the print and postal industry... These old german engineers have been designing and building printers that fill full rooms for over 50 years and the machines they built back then are still working today...

I showed them my ultimaker2 and its feeder.. the old chaps almost fell over off their chairs laughing at the nonsense engineering. They thought it was actually a bad joke what I showed them.

They told me if there was an interest, they could quickly develop an all metal German design solution to the feeding of different filaments into a 3d printer like ultimaker.

This product would be designed to work function and print for a thousand years.. as the germans laughingly said....

Im only pointing out the fact that if In wrong and ultimaker has not addressed this design OOOOPPPSSS... already... then I want to know if there is a costumer base for such a product as my german solution.

No more assing about with designing... just DEUTSCHE TECHNIK...

Let me me know what you guys thing.

Honestly if I get a feeling this is a good idea..... Il push it on my boss and start testing.....

Also if some one knows that ultimaker is just about to release something for this... please let me know... I don't want to take a fall on this in my first 2 months on the job.

    Just want to help !

    Good night guys.

    Ian :-)

  7. GETTING BACK INTO IT QUESTIONS...

Because I have been unplugged from the system for a while with my move and new job.. I have a few silly little questions I would love you guys to help me with.

    (1) Is there any new offers directly from ultimaker ? new products... heated plate for the ultimaker1 ?

    (2) Does it seem like the forum is cooling down with activity ? Doesn't seem to be a big buzz from what I can see tonight ?

    (3) Any news on what ultimaker is doing... new inventions.. improvements to existing designs... is quality and reliability getting better ?

    (4) Is Ultimaker coming slowly down from the top of the HYPE CYCLE ? and trying to again and again reorganize themselves to deal with this... phase of growth ?

I know guys these questions probably are in the forum a thousand times before but I would like a quick litmus test of how things are going ?

Good night and cant wait to read this tread in the morning.

    Big hugs.

    Ian

  8.

My first print in Bronzefill, tried various polishing techniques but settled for fine grain sand paper (240 grit), rotating brass wire brush with a dremel on low speed and finally Autosol polishing paste with a rag.

The aged look is accomplished with applying a layer of black spraypaint and instantly afterwards try to wipe as much paint as possible off with a rag, this is done right before the final polishing.

i love this.. is is the simple moment where i do admit to myself.. why did i never think of something that simply and brilliant.

    really love it !!!

    Ian :-)

  9. Hi guys.

So im getting big time into doing jogging sport.. im pulling off 3 times a week 20km laps and loving it.

Funny enough im not actually loosening weight like i I imagined but my muscles in my legs and ass are really tightening up. ... im now down to my last belt buckle whole... eek.... I think listening to Robert gabbing on about sports.. pushed me into it !! so blame Robert please for my tight sexy ass !!!

Also the new job is going great... brilliant detailed german engineering with absolutely crazy tolerances and levels of accuracy.... we are designing special connecting bolts at the moment for a one million euro printer for the big company...... and each bolt is down too .001mm accuracy.......

i love working with german engineering... if your going to do it right... let the germans show you how ! LOLL

Last funny note... i have a neigbour that lives beside my apartment.. nice chap.... i knew he had a girlfriend that was living with him but never spotted her...

    Just did....

And........ she is smoking with all the fire alarms set off HOTTTTT.....

I almost wanted to stop her and take a photo... but i resisted.....

Damn........ I wanted to concentrate on work and sports and now I know a steaming hot..... oh baby light my fire bird is living 5 meters from......

going now to have a very cold shower....... LOLLLLL

    big hugs guys !

    Ian

  10.

My interpretation of the workhorse of the wehrmacht. Panzer IV. Currently its lacking pintle MG34 and headlights. Its fully poseable and has working threads.

Me and the SO paid a visit to the german panzer museum in Münster, and filled a bunch of CF cards with pictures, so currently om working towards modelling a full set of wehrmacht vehicles.

Modelled in solidworks, sliced in cura, printed on ultimaker, glued together by me!

I do admit I am a monster world war two history fan... and when i saw this just now... i almost browned by trousers... LOL

Are you going to share the printable models ?

Do you think its possible to 3d print using an ultimaker.. a VW kubelwagon ??? maybe with the big fat afrika korp wheels on it... ?... oh the possabilities...

Also where did you get all the exact technical specifications to design the model ? It looks very accurate...

so... trousers now browned.. LOLL... thanks a million for sharing this really impressive print !!!

    Ian

ps. my militay photo website if your interested ! www.pixpast.com

  11. I was drinking a cup of coffee yesterday watching the printer do its thing and I noticed that since i got my UM² the rest of my work is just lying there. I'm so excited and captivated by all things 3D printing that nothing else moves. I'm pretty sure that if I wouldn't print something for my wife once in a while she would've smacked me around already :)

I was wondering: Do any of you guys have that feeling as well? Does it get better with time?

dude.. your sooooo screwed !!! LOLLL

  12. PS..... i really hope and pray to have the internet whole in my life filled..... hehehe.. i just said whole and fill... LOLLL.... oh im so funny...... LOLLL

And then I can start getting back to printing crazy mad things and bombarding all you amazing people every morning infront of your coffee and donuts with amazing mindless useless creations.. WOHAAAAAAAAA...

ok irish boy now going to bed..... night night !!

ps... was that enough crazyness for one evening... NO ???......

    then... mmm let me think......

pink turkey.... chicken wing midgets dipped in cola cheery gravy...

I love being back here

  13. Guys about Berlin... if there are some brilliant ultimaker nutballs in Berlin on a Saturday.. then im there... if iv forgotten to forward on my mobile number to any of the interested parties please shoot me an email at ian.spring@gmail.com

I will be the drunk irish guy talking about northern ireland politics to the poor dog tied to the light post as the granny goes shopping for fresh underpants !!

    Oh yes... Ian :-)

  14. I have a question for you guys....

I am flying into London on the 17th of July this year late in the evening. (Thursday night)

I am with 4 friends and we all have tickets for the big Monthy Phyton Show in the o2 arena London on Friday evening.

Problem is.... We will be getting into London at 1AM Friday morning.. By the time we are in London it will be 2AM atleast.

So its kinda stupid to book a hotel room for 5 people.

So my question is... what could we do ... ?.... 5 lovely people need either something to do or a sofa to lie our heads on for a few hours.

My friend suggested we just stay and sit in the airport for 8 or 9 hours and then go into London.... 9 hours sitting in an airport is like.... NOOOOOOOO

Are any of you guys in London ?... want to rent your sofa and kettle for a few hours to some loveable germans and an irish chap... ?... I know it sounds like a dream come true right !

    Ian
