  1. I keep trying to make it work without success. I have checked over and over the Thermistor connection and everything is well connected but the temperature reading keeps showing 0. I have checked how the resistance of the thermistor varies with temperature changes using a multi tester, so the thermistor is working correctly but the Ultimaker is not detecting it. The multi tester shows about 100k at room temperature an decreases as it warms up. anyone has any ideas I could try to make it work ?
  2. No, I don't see a room temperature on the UM controller, The UM reads 0. (I got the 130 k room temperature reading connecting the multi-tester to the thermistor). I am going to rewire the thermistor connector, just in case there is a bad contact. I´ll let you know how it goes. Even if I do not connect anything to the HEAT_BED connector, I should see the RED LED flashing, correct?
  3. Thank you for the tips, I am one step closer, but not quite there... I double checked the 4,7K resistor and it was poorly soldered, I fix that and the MAX TEMP error doesn't show anymore. BUT now I get no temperature reading, just 0. And if I try to set any temperature in the ulticontroler there is no response from the HEATED_BED connector. The thermistor gives about a 130 K reading at room temperature. I am connecting the relay directly to the HEATED_BED connector. I am not connecting my secondary power unit and heated bed yet. I just want to see the relay being activated by the Ultimaker PCB. The red LED associated to the HEATED_BED connector doesn't lit at all like the nozzle heater does. Am I missing something else?
  4. I am going try swaping the wires, but I thought that thermistors worked like a regular resistor (but changing resistance with temperature) where polarity doesn't matter...
  5. Hi Harold, Thank you very much for sending the .hex file. I feel closer to the solution as I can see heatbed setting on the ulticontroller screen now. But I have tested but I get a MAX HEAT BED TEMP ERROR from the start. I am using a "normal" 100k thermistor (bought over the counter in a electronics shop). I am not after very accurate temperature control. I just want the Ultimaker board to control a relay that powers the heatbed and keep the temperature within a reasonable range. I checked the resistance of the thermistors and it is about 100k at room temperature. The Heat bed will be powered with a 20A external power unit and switched on and off by the relay. I have soldered the 4,7 R4 resistor to the board. Any idea why I get the MAX TEMP error? Any idea why
  6. I would like to test too. I use an Ultimaker on a daily basis. And Kristen suggestion to offer heated bed support would be great. I need a .hex with HB....
  7. I tried and my ulticontroller also goes blank, but mine doesn't recover. Did you change anything after your controller went blank? would you mind sharing the .hex file?
  8. I am also looking for a firmware for a heated bed. I have all the hardware set up but can't use it yet. I tried to upload an edited version as specified in the usual links but the ulticontroler goes blank. Could you please share the .hex file. I downloaded Kristen file but it's an.exe file and I am on a Mac. Thank you in advance,
  9. Thank you for the detailed answer. Very informative. My Ultimaker and ulticontroler are brand new (from last week) and I updated the firmware, but the flow is showing 210,54 by default, instead of 100 as you mentioned it should.
  10. How do you think I could improve the quality of this top layer: http://cl.ly/image/012d3K2n1k3g And how about this, should I change the retraction parameters?: http://cl.ly/image/1z2t2l1t1T3W This are the settings I am using in Cura: http://cl.ly/image/1x3O2q252g1a Any help would be appreciated
  11. Hi, After one week printing with my new Ultimaker with Ultocontrol I have some questions. I am using Cura for slicing. I have been trying to tune up the prints by reading all the information I can find here, but I am sure I am doing things right or not. - I am adjusting the platform to a point where I can slide a piece of paper between the nozzle and the blue tape with a little resistance by pulling with two fingers, is this right? - When you guys say the printers is overextruding or underextruding, how do I change that? should I use the flow control in the tune menu of the ulticontroler - Temperature for PLA (supplied by Ultimaker: I am using 210ºC, What are the advantages/disadvantages of going hotter or colder? - Should I print the first layer of large flat objects warmer (220?) to help avoiding warping? - "Enable Retraction": should this option alway be used in Cura for good quality without stringing? - "Wall thickness": this just affects the strength of the print, right? - "Bottom/Top thickness" : does this affect the smoothness of the first and last layer, or just the strength of the print? what is a good value? - "Initial layer thickness": what's the difference between the initial layer and the bottom layer? or is it the same? does this value override the "Bottom/Top thickness"? What's a good value? - Any tips for smooth base and top finish? - When should I turn on the fan? Is its good or bad regarding warping? should I print the first layer without fan and the turn it on? which speed by Ulticontroler? I am sure I´ll have many more questions, but this should be enough by now. Thank you in advance
  12. Thank you for the answer. I´ll try to set the Z endstop a little lower. I was trying to avoid warping by making sure the first layer sticks well. I am setting the Z endstop by placing a piece of paper between the nozzle and the platform and adjusting height until I can move it with some (little) resistance. Is this right? Do the rest of settings in the image look OK?
  13. Hello, I am getting this stripped bottom pattern in some areas, while other areas are pretty smooth. It is not the blue tape causing it: http://cl.ly/image/3n0A2F072o0G It seems like Cura could be causing it, because when I prepare the print I get this graphic that shows in pink the same area (more or less) the problem occurs: http://cl.ly/image/2c451d102h2Y Any ideas? or better parameters to obtain a smooth base layer?
  14. Thank you for the answer. I have the latest (as from last week) Ultimaker, so I assume it comes with the latests dive filament. I'll try to tighten a little bit and print at 200-220. Most of the times the walls are pretty smooth. What surprises me, is that the mistake always happens in the same area.
  15. Hello, I am giving my first steps with my new Ultimaker, and I am trying to learn from all you. I have noticed this pattern alway in the same area of different parts: http://cl.ly/image/1j181E383x12 I am using PLA and Cura with the following parameters: Layer height 0.2 Wall thickness 0.8 Enable retraction: yes Density 60 Print speed 80 Printing temperature 230 All parts have about the same diameter and are printed in the same area of the platform, I am not sure if that has something to do.. Any hints will be helpful Thank you in advance
