  1. Hi guys, I am having a real moment of madness. I need to print something pretty thin and very flat. So I have recently got into printing some gcode I found that basically prints 4 or 5 really slow 1 layer thick big circles which gives you time to tweak the levelling screws on the ultimaker 2. To ultimately calibrate the machine I haven't used my printer for a few weeks ran the calibration tools on the printer itself, pretty sure it was spot on. Then ran the gcode to fine tune and I havent touched any of the dials and noticed that as you look at the machine (imagining 6 on a clock is your face at the front opening) 1-3 oclock the filament looks too thick, 3-9 oclock the filament looks about right and 9-12 the filament is really very thin (way too thin). So I recalibrated made a few tiny adjustments, did it again and same result. At this point im losing my mind slightly and am unsure why when you use the bed levelling procedure it all seems perfect but when I do the test its clearly not right.... What am I doing wrong
  2. Just to add I am open to offers, like I said the printer has barely been used and has a lot of filament. I have started printing again the last week or so, so the hours will go up slightly.
  3. Would you accept £900 for the printer? As there are new ones selling on ebay for around £1200 Thanks! Luke new ones on ebay are 1350ish Personally I would stay well clear of those, there was a couple of sellers selling them before when I was looking and buyers never actually got them... or got them and they weren't new. Try asking them about the warranty and receipt details, which is why you are buying them new. You will find you don't get answers very quickly...
  4. sorry auto correct.. I meant will you ship to the U.S. It must auto reset the timer when you update firmware, but based on what my friend has done which he left on the memory card and based on what I have done probably around 30 hours which sounds like a lot but really is nothing. the box and filament is huge so I could ship to the US but I don't really know how and I would imagine it would be crazy pricey. Do you have any recommended shippers?
  5. Hi All, I have an Ultimaker 2 for sale I bought around 1 month ago second hand from a friend who used it for a couple of projects and then left it sitting not being used, and since then I purchased a whole load of filament for it listed below. I have done what I needed it for and due to soon moving house I need the money. I also found the world of 3d printing a little fidderly for my liking. But as you know because you are looking here the Ultimaker 2 is the best on the home market currently. All filament is high quality from Dream3d I am looking for around £1,375 with all filament. Ideally collection only I am in Surrey, UK Orange most of a 90m spool left Blue most of a 90m spool left Grey - basically brand new dark blue - brand new 90m spool yellow - 20m estimate - was a sample spool black - 20m estimate - was a sample spool white - 20 meters estimate - was a sample spool orange - 10m sample glown in the dark - 10m sample red - 10m sample purple - 10m sample Some images below from my listing that I will put up later this week if it doesn't sell:
  6. Oh wow that would be great. BTW where did you get your quieter fan? And how much more quiet is it?
  7. Oh wow when you try it please let me know how easy it was to fix etc.. as mine is quite noisey and if this is silent that would be amazing.
  8. Are you sure you are really printing at 25? Did you set 25 in the advanced tab of cura, or did you just set 25 in the basic settings speed (which will do nothing). Those overhangs in the lower part of the body are really nasty and they don't look printed at a speed of 25. Ah when you say the advanced tab setting? Which setting in there should I be changing? I only changed on basic tab
  9. Ah ok, thats interesting. So it looks like you also made the shell much thinner, any reason why you would do that?
  10. Oh interesting that looks great. I will give it a go tonight and see what happens. Should fill actually make any difference though?
  11. Howdy Izzy, I meant to say I havent yet printed the new kit but thanks for the advice. I was just printing the Robert chain to try and solve a couple of issues at a time, (like making sure my bed was levelled, and the bottom layers are perfect every time). I am now trying to print a perfect Marvin - although depressingly it doesnt look any better then it did when i first tried a week or so ago. But I am asking lots of questions in the help threads. To anyone else reading this, I am very keen to meet up if you are in the Surrey area.
  12. So actually the 50% fill was because I read on the 3dHubs site that it helped with some of the the form. I have seen that people on 3d hubs have done a perfect print with it on UM2s and certainly alot better then mine. Other then printing two is there any other suggestions?
  13. Hi guys, Back again, I decided last night to try and get a perfect Marvin robot (the one from 3d hubs) but am having some real issues, and its making me question all the little changes etc.. I have done so far. I printed the below, the left Marvin was printed on basic normal settings in cura on my UM2 straight out the box pretty much. The rihght is me printing it (after spending quite some timelevelling the bed etc.. and also doing bespoke settings listed below: Layer Height 0.1 Shell thickness 0.8 Fill bottom thickness 0.6 Fill density 50 Print speed 25 Quality initial layer 0.1 Cooling fans set to 100% after first 3 layers. I then printed this with normal PLA at 60c bed and 190c Nozzle Take a look http://imgur.com/a/AjBxc The Marvin on normal takes around 20 mins to print, my settings took it about 43 mins. TBH im pretty depressed right now - I thought I was getting somewhere over this last week learning about settings etc.. There are a few random questions I have, like should I be printing slower? Why does the right ear look so much worse. Should I put down the temp again? What is going on with the back?
  14. OK great, I have tried changing to 0.2mm to see how that comes out. Potentially a silly question, but I have noticed when it is printing after a few layers it almost looks like the print is a bit too gooey and are not perfectly flat, so the head runs over them and then lays the plastic all fine but it almost seems to push it down and when the head moves off. the plastic pops up again. But it hasn't detatched from the glass at all.
  15. I should add it feels very smooth and looks shiny but that is the best I have ever got. The worst has little gaps (only small) between the layers.
  16. Hi Guys, Check this image. http://imgur.com/Lv6CODq It is a best case scenario i am getting, the worst has small gaps. A few people in another post spotted the problem but that was when i was having issues not getting prints to stick. Now they are sticking perfectly. They mentioned it could be a belt issue, but the belts feel pretty tight. How tight should they be? Could it be a bed issue. My prints now stick perfectly but should i try adjusting up the bed a fraction?
  17. Is it me or does your left fan look a bit odd.....I'm a nooby so I could be wrong
  18. Hey All, Quick update just printed about 5 pieces of Roberts Chain (figured while I am practising I would do something semi useful) and am really happy with them, all of them apart from one are perfect and even that one is ok. I think it might have been at the very back of the plate and doesn't seem to be as level on the bottom of the piece. So I am going to maybe try turning the back spring dial a quarter turn and see if that makes a difference with the next set of chain pieces I print. I have been using no glue but now after cleaning the bed and revealing it seems to be sticking much better. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
  19. Hi all, Quick update, I just cleaned the bed, am not using any glue and just calibrated by eye the bed and fingers crossed it seems to be working nicer now. I am just going to try a few things that are going to be useful and in small parts (Ie some of Roberts mods) see how they come out.
  20. Hi Robert, Thanks for the advice, I have a um2. And am using fast and normal settings in cura.
  21. Hi Guys, I have had lots of advice in a nooby thread from Izzy (massive thanks to him. But I am now actually coming up against a few bigger problems. I have been printing quite a bit over the last few days and just when I thought I had nailed the basics, everything seems to have gone slightly wrong. 1st up: I started printing in white PLA a few test pieces, and I seem to be getting a lot of lifting at the edges of stuff even after a few minutes, and im not sure if this is because of the filament not sticking or because of some sort of cooling issue, any ideas? 2nd: I have noticed on some of my early prints little defects, is this normal and how would I look at resolving it? 3rd: On some of the bigger white pieces i have printed i have noticed the layers are a bit patchy - is that another setting issue? 4th: I have been using white glue sticks, but am a little unsure how and when to use these? Should i use the before each print? Should the glue be sticky (i wouldn't say it is)? I read online to put a dab of water on after you use a glue stick and mix it around with a finger to give an even slightly moist surface, so have tried that a few times. Finally should i be scraping off all the glue in-between prints? As now it looks a bit patching on the bed. And now my final problem that is driving me bonkers, is my prints don't seem to be sticking, i have recalibrated a few times, and maybe the first 20s or so will stick and then suddenly the head will catch a piece pick it up and start to pull it around and then 5s later there is just a giant blobby mess. What am i doing wrong? Any help on any of the above would be fantastic (and like i said in the other thread if you are near Woking, Surrey, UK then please do let me know as it would be great to get some advice in person) Thank you all in advance!! 22. You genius! Lazy Suzy! I was virtually planning out a little cupboard for it and wondering how I would get to the back easily. So the only thing with the component you sent me is, the prospect of unscrewing stuff on my printer is a bit scary!
  23. Howdy bud, Thanks for the help been having a real play with it at home tonight, getting much more confident, and had about 95% success rate tonight which is great. I have also downloaded 123d Design to modify some designs of various things online and am really happy with the results so far. Do you have a link to the fan and Roberts parts, also can those be made in PLA or do I need to use ABS. As I am using it at home in an upstairs room I think I will need to stay away from ABS.
  24. OK goods news, I printed a little owl and ghost (pacman) and both are pretty good, I could see one side of the ghost lift on the first few layers, so I have recalibrated the print bed fingers crossed that will solve that, and other then that im pretty happy with it tbh. Wayyy better then the Robot. Just think I need to keep tweaking on a few simple prints until I can get them spot on and then give a bigger thing a go. Also need to work on noise, and its just sending vibrations through the house (we have super crazy thing walls)
