it's a brand new filament (PLA from Colorfabb) that's on the spool.
-
It's a DupTef Coupler combined with an “I2K” – Insulator from 3Dsolex (http://3dsolex.com/teflon-replacements) I'm using and it's not very old, my guess would be 100 print hours max with it...

hello,
I got a strange problem with my UM2 now...
The print starts perfectly each time but after 15 minutes or something the filament starts grinding and the printer stops pushing filament through the nozzle.
I have no clue what this can be, I already changed the nozzle with another nozzle (0.4 mm) from Olsson (so no chinese nozzle). And after I change it, it starts printing again for a few minutes and then again it starts printing in the air and the filament is grinded again.
Anybody who can help me out, I have no clue how to solve this one.
I already have a nice collection of prints, but all of the sudden it's not working anymore.
Thanks in advance!
here are a few prints :

I am also looking for a good 3D scanner, and right now the Einscan-S is the best quality and price combinations.
when looking for a scanner, don't bother with scanners that can't scan 0.1mm or better.
with the 0.1mm accuracy, you can scan and object and enlarge the part, with all other cheap scanners you just get an overall shape with little detail, and an image overlay to pretend there is detail.
I have been saving up for this scanner, but also heard rumors about a newer and better version in the works, I still have to decide what to do
The einscan setup is very easy, and I have seen some great results, of the software is also very functional en get updated regularly.
Here is a forum that talks about the Einscan, and also has developers responding to questions.

and some scan results:
That is very impressive

Ik heb geen problemen meer, het lag dus echt aan het materiaal.
Ik heb nu al meerdere prints gemaakt en allen waren prima.
Bedankt voor alle informatie.

Those timelapse movies are really awesome

Do you use a dual screen? If yes, make sure the dialog window is in your viewport, otherwise you will never see it.
Also upgrade you Mac for free with the most recent version of their OS, that's OSX 10.11 (el capitan)
Is that Cura 15.04.2?

I solved the noises and beeps from the UM2 in our office in a more elegant way. A front door in plexi and a pre-assembled top cover. I love it!
Noise reduction = +50% and even more...
Highly recommended when your printer is located in an office or another place where people try to work or study
And even the design is still pretty cool for our office.

Also, check out this link, this might be your solution

Nice first prints indeed, welcome aboard avogra!

strange Ultimaker never mentions this screw in their manual...
when i read the bed leveling section : https://ultimaker.com/nl/support/view/17083-bed-leveling They don't mention the 3rd screw, weird?
-
The bed uses 3 screws to level. It's a 3 axis level system. For calibration you just turn them. You mean the ones down the plate two in front and one on the bad of the lower plate on the center right?
yep, the screw on the bottom in the center of the build plate
-
hello,
I noticed there is a 3rd screw on the buildplate for bed leveling.
What's the use of that 3rd screw, do we need to adjust this screw from time to time?

I'll give the "Um2 Hot End Labern Dual Fan Shroud I2 K V3" a try
I'll print it in XT, do I need the kapton tape also?

Shorter retract distances decreases the sound, changing the retract speed changes the frequency... for the retract distance: you might get oozing on the lower end; same goes for the speed plus there you might get a skipping feeder motor on the upper end.
so should I change anything to my S3D retraction settings in your opinion?
-
I bought it too to get more controls from my printer. Indeed (at least for me) a steep learn curve. It took me some time to get decent prints out of it. But it got it working perfectly and I like the program a lot so far!

En overweeg zeker ook een Olsson block, dit was voor mij de beste upgrade voor mijn UM2.
-
Hmm... an office desk usually does not resonate... I guess you will have to live with the retraction sound. btw: what retraction speed have you set? This one changes the sound...
My retraction speed is on 40mm/s on the printer itself. (for Cura Gcodes)
But when I use Simplify3D then I got this settings :

I had some trouble in the beginning to get it configured correctly. This was my first time I even saw a Raspberry Pi!
I had no knowledge of different Gcodes ("UltiGcode" & "RepRap" etc etc) and I struggled many hours for finding this settings in my Cura. After reading this feature was not yet implemented in the beta I switched to Cura 15.04.02 and got this first issue fixed.
The 2nd issue I had with Octoprint was the default start gcode and end gcode was not working properly for me. I tested many gcodes I found on the internet and got one working for my configuration perfectly. Issue fixed.
The 3rd issue I had was the webcam was not working. This was fixed fast, I bought an original Raspberry Pi camera and issue fixed.
The 4the issue was the on remote web-access for the Octoprint configuration. (only with this feature working Octoprint would have an advantage to use for me) After setting up a DDNS account and opening the correct ports in our company firewall for the web-access, I got it all working. All issues fixed!
It took me several days to get Octoprint working cause I started with zero knowledge of Linux, Raspberry Pi and Gcodes.
But now it's working and this platform gives me a true advantage to use. Our 3D printer is located at my office which is 50km from where I live. In the beginning I helped myself with simple webcam (which I still use for the top view of my prints) and a Wemo switch (you can turn on and off the power on remote, this was quite handy for me when I saw a print going wrong cause I didn't have to travel 50km to turn the printer off)
But now I got a real true interface to manage my printer on remote.
The webcam still needs a mount which goes together with my platform but I'm working on it. Still haven't found a good mount for my raspberry pi camera. I prefer one that can be mounted on the print platform for timelapse movies.
Here are a few screenshots of my octoprint config right now printing on remote.
This is the old webcam I'm still using still using for the top view (you can see the real amateur mount-tape-solution I'm currently using for the Rasp cam)
And here are a few screenshots for my Octoprint working. (finally )
I can only recommend Octoprint!

@frederiekpascal: What is your UM2 standing on? Have you tried yet to lift it for a few seconds and check if the sound is still the same. Because I think the retraction of the UM2 is really quiet (at least compared to an UMO). But you can amplify the sound it makes by putting the UM2 onto something which is in resonance with the printer sounds.
Found a picture from where our printer is standing on. A white desk in wood.
(I already got rid of the blue tape for PLA, no worries people! )

Change speed & acceleration. Its the combination that creates the sound. Some people used this to let the machine play midi songs.
I mostly print on 30mm/s to 50mm/s (I like high quality and I have patience ) and travel speed 250mm/s (like recommended by many forum members here). Should I change anything to get less beeps?
I got the retraction sounds with Gcodes from Cura (new & old versions) and the new program I started using : Simplify3D.
I noticed it's more beeping with gcodes from Simplify3D but it's not a huge difference compared to Cura gcodes.

We have Spotify with Sonos in our office but still
Weird problem - UM2 starts grinding filament after 15 minutes and prints in the air...
