  1. I have installed the 0.5.0 plugin for SolidWorks, but it does not work.  Here's the error message I receive:

    5a832348729fe_LoadFailure.JPG.1b0dbdfaded77c93ee881ae653028f5e.JPG

It really looks interesting now that the resolution can be set to something more detailed than the "Fine" setting from SW.

    I'm on SolidWorks Standard, 2018 SP 1.0

In the mean time, how do I return to 0.3.7?

  2. Hey guys,

could you please confirm that 0.4.3.1 is working?

I noticed a strange bug in this version.

    - Thanks!

Have not tried 0.4.3.1. I re-installed 0.3.7 and it seems to work fine. I have had no success with any of the 0.4.X.X versions. Is it possible to increase the resolution? When I save a file out of SolidWorks, I choose a "Custom" setting as I find the default "Fine" setting results in a faceted model.

Thanks for all of the effort to perfect this Plugin.

  3. Version 0.3.7 was working perfectly. Followed your instructions and now unfortunately the plugin is completely broken:(. Prior to this update I was able to select a SolidWorks part file from the Cura File > Open. Now I get an error message stating it is an unsupported file type. SolidWorks 2017 SP4.1, Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.

    Any suggestions?

  4. In fairness, I can't say, because I'm not a regulator user of OnShape. I do have access to it and have had since it's infancy. Never the less, SolidWorks is the application I earn my living with. As previously discussed, I'm a SolidWorks user for 20 + years. I'm simply suggesting that if someone is searching for a full featured, fully supported 3D mechanical CAD application, with both solid publisher and community support, plenty of on line user tutorials, with no cost, I believe OnShape is a viable alternative worth consideration.

If you are aware of the short comings and cons of the product, please contribute to the secession for the benefit of all.

  5. As a SolidWorks user for 20 years, I can, with out question, recommend OnShape. Written by the team that started SolidWorks (the first affordable and powerful 3D CAD IMO). Runs in a browser regardless of OS. Works on Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook & Mobile (iOS & Android) and your favorite tablet. If I were not so now heavily invested in SolidWorks (20 years at $1,295/year) I would certainly opt for OnShape Professional at $125/month.

    Have a look. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Fully functional. Not crippled in any way. Files are kept in the public access cloud, so you have access to them from anywhere in the world. And it's free . . .<3

  6. No Nallath, 2.7 still has the problem. :( My solution is to actually keep an SD card in the drive that it's complaining about. In my case it is the D drive, which is in fact a removable drive in the multi card reader on the front panel of my computer tower.

  7. The URI didn't change, so its probably some service that failed to start.

Port 8080 is used for any number of web servers and NAS devices like NAS hard drives. This port is a popular alternative to port 80 for offering web services. "8080" was chosen since it is "two 80's"

Have you added anything to your network recently? A camera perhaps?

  8. My name is Jaime, 27 years old. I currently work as a software developer for Cura, but have worked on Embedded (UM3 Firmware) and the UltiScanTastic®™, a structured light 3D scanner. I've started working for Ultimaker 5 years ago, which makes me the second software developer to be hired by UM (Daid being the first).

I "suffer" from the same problem as Ruben; If you're with a company like Ultimaker for an extended period of time, you tend to become the generic problem solver. I'm usually involved in a lot of projects at a time, ranging from Intellectual property to in depth software engineering.

As for hobbies; I play a lot of RPGS (Tabletop & LARP), which also includes a lot of crafting. I build my own costumes (cloth & leatherwork) and assorted props (I even made a fortune telling "haunted" robot).

So Jaime, tell us, where does the Nallath moniker come from?

  9. No matter.  It hasn't worked properly on my Samsung S8 for months anyway.  When I connect to it I can see the camera view of the build plate with a message saying Already authorized, but when I touch the Connect to this Ultimaker 3, I get "The printer is not connected,  make sure the device and the printer are connected to the same network, blah, blah, blah, please try again".

I've posted requests for a fix several times, but never received any sort of positive response.

    Seems it's been abandoned . . .  So sad.:(

If all you need is access to the camera than just use the below format for the IP of your machine and add:

    Your_machine_ip:8080/?action=snapshot

    or

    Your_machine_ip:8080/?action=stream

You can read all about the configuration of the UM3 with the 6-day thread that David Braam hosted some time ago:

    https://ultimaker.com/en/community/23254-inside-the-ultimaker-3-day-1-gcode

I'm well aware of the "Your_machine_ip:8080/?action=stream" work around. The mobile app was originally designed to allow not just viewing, but also control, much like when viewing from within Cura during a print job.

  11. Good to know the brain is not totally dead. It may be why it did not get much mention. Having developed things before, in various industries, it can be bad to build up expectations in case it takes longer than expected or causes trickle down effects. Programming can be particularly nasty about unintended effects and can be a pain to track down.

Better to say nothing than say anything at all in most cases.

Oh!! And they have the Neotko Sanding feature being implemented (Ironing) and I will be happy to see how that helps.

I am so busy experimenting with things that I just do not have the time to test these new features.

Yes, I tried the new Top Surface Skin Pattern, and it does pretty much what I was looking for, but why not just make it part of the Top/Bottom Pattern, by splitting that menu Item in to two distinct items i.e. Top Pattern and Bottom Pattern?

  12. Every SW part I brought in failed to load regardless of the "fine" or "course" setting.

That said, it's a fantastic idea.  How can I help with the further development of this plugin?

    SolidWorks 2017 x64 Edition SP3.0 running on Win10 64 bit.

Development is going on here: https://github.com/Ultimaker/CuraSolidWorksPlugin

You could help by modifying the code and making pull requests, or just by testing the plug-in in various ways (when SolidWorks is open in the background, when it's not, etc) and making bug reports when stuff breaks.

The past few days we've been fixing a lot of stuff for the SolidWorks plug-in. It's currently in the fix2 branch but I expect that we'll have an update for that plug-in soon.

Gostkeeper, the link is broken . . . No matter, I know nothing about writing code. I'll continue to attempt to use the plugin, if I'm notified of updates to it and report the results back on this thread, if that will help.

  13. Looks very interesting, especially the support and surface options

For some reason, I always have to purge my cache to get the download to work on your site.  I hover over the download link and the mouse does not change to a link to download.  (Or I open the page with Firefox.)   Just an FYI

I've experienced the same problem for several months now with Firefox. Usually end up using Chrome to download the files instead of purging the whole History and cache out of Firefox. The links just act as though they are dead . . .
