  1. It was also my understanding that you should use a prime tower.  I think Cura has it set to on by default.  Again shows the lack of literature on how you are supposed to use this printer and software.

As for materials running out during a print it has happened to me.  You just navigate to the materials section and tell it to change materials, it will unload the bit that's left and then you reload the new one and you carry on.  I really wouldn't suggest trying to push the material in behind the old one as the retraction would be a problem

    Hi SandervG

    In my case;

Typically when I have the network issue if I look on the touch screen it shows “properly” connected however, it is not visible within Ultimaker Cura nor remotely.

If I redo Cura Connect reset on the printer all is good again.

I am connected via WiFi with a MAC address assigned IP so the IP never changes as such it is not a DHCP issue; or at least not in the traditional sense.

Is this what I can expect to be fixed?

BTW; I also see “unknown” network on the touch screen from time to time too and this always seem to happen after the printer in on but not used for a period of time.

    Takes care.

Exactly the same as me mate and what I have reported in this thread previously.

What I meant is stability with cura connect over wifi connection to printer, have you fixed this yet or not @SandervG? Also can you comment about how the firmware upgrade part of the printer will behave post new update? will you be making this more intuitive?

    Your honest comment is appreciated.

    Takes care

I will do one in the coming weeks and post it here.  I think it's important there are more reports about the machine on SM other than Ultimakers own media.

I love the printer, I am just disappointed in it (as you can read in my earlier comments in this thread)

Ultimaker come on guys, you have dropped the ball.  Pick it up and sort it out.

Also some more communication on this forum would not go a miss in my opinion.  Silence is not good!

This thread has been fascinating to follow.   I also can't find a single review on the Ultimaker S5 on YouTube ?

I keep meaning to do one on my small channel but I don't think Ultimaker would be best pleased as I think as things stand it's a bit of a mixed bag....

I couldn't sing it's praises at the moment, it's good but it's not £6500 good tbh.

Just.  In fact I had to enlist the help of my CR-10S as well to get the job done.  The S5 was printing TPLA and the CR-10 just regular PLA.  These parts were actually strapped to a car and driven at 150mph! Everything was good and I think they are going with this design for the season so look out for it.

I also made a video about it here if you are interested.

That would be slightly relevant if the only users of Cura were Ultimaker owners, and if what they released meant people could not use their printers !. Two points there, the vast majority of Cura users I bet aren’t only Ultimaker owners, and lets be honest, the only issue is here that (some ) people cannot use one version of Cura. It’s not like 3.4.1 doesn’t work !. There are some great additions in 3.5 but it’s not like 3.4.1 wasn’t useable !, far from it.

Slightly relevant? Im sorry but if you drop £6500 on an expensive printer you do not expect to get intrusive messages on the companion software telling you to update to the latest version only to find its buggy.  My S5 is running non stop, my last print was prototype formula E onboard camera mounting/aerodynamic parts that had to be delivered to ABB Formula E within 24h of the request - I do not have time to be messing around with software nor do I expect to do so at this price point.

I use an ultimaker printer, ultimaker filament and ultimaker software.... the whole concept is it is just supposed to work.  It is 100% relevant to me.

@bigbrit - except that this software is free to use for ANY printer, not just Ultimakers. I considerate it generous that they are willing to offer it for free to competitors hardware. You have many other options besides Cura so I don't see your point.

But I do not own another printer, I own an S5.  It may be free for other printers but that does not concern me at all.  It is the companion software to the hardware I own, the whole point of it is that if you buy an Ultimaker printer you use ultimaker software and ultimaker materials for a seamless experience.  If the software is buggy then that whole process breaks down.

I don't get why people are bashing the UM team here, this software is free !!!! and whilst anyone who works in software development knows you can't find every issue, it's how you deal with it when they come up.

I think, if you are going to charge a premium for your machines and target a professional customer you really need to have your house in order.  The software is free, yes, but it is companion software to expensive hardware.  Releasing software in this state in my opinion is unprofessional and damages Ultimakers reputation.

The information about November 13th was there from day 1 (you can trust me as an UM ambassador and UM reseller on that).

Maybe that distributor was actually referring to November 15th?

Strange that both of us initially missed that on the press release! I believe you, I must have been so excited I stopped reading half way through to do some googling.

Seeing as you are an ambassador is there any way you can convince ultimaker to release some more information about other materials that may be coming in the future?

I am exactly ultimakers target customer for the S5, light industrial use and prototyping (in the broadcasting sector). Being tight lipped is not going to help either Ultimaker or our business, I see no need for complete silence.

That information is not correct. Officially the core will become available as from November 13th; see https://ultimaker.com/en/blog/52718-our-complete-solution-3d-printing-with-high-performance-plastics-and-composites

Wow I read that article and still never noticed the bold writing saying the date of release.  Another month yet then.

Does anyone know any details about other materials that will likely become available? I see the list of partners they are working with, however it would be good to have some sort of rough roadmap or details about what may become available in the future.

This printer is quickly becoming a key part of our RnD and it would be good to know where it is going to take us so we can plan.

  11. Hi guys

I have been looking for some rough dates for when the new CC core will be available along with the new materials recently announced? We are v keen to get hold of the core and some carbon fibre nylon.

Does anyone have any rough ideas? are we talking weeks or months?

  12. guys why do we have to do a fresh installation of Cura each time there is a new release? Cant you make it so that its an update instead? nothing transfers over to the new installation and its kinda annoying having to redo everything again.

I just managed to contact the reseller, he said that all ultimaker printers sold in israel are without the wifi card because the frequency of the wifi interffears with military bands.. So no wifi for me ?

You are not missing much, it's pretty flaky at the moment.

Is there anyway for you to plug the ethernet into some sort of device to convert it to WiFi?

That be cool if it is, only got my S5 on Sat and filled in the form for the build plate right away so mine might be a bit away going by how many they have got made. Hopefully it is.

Talking build plates as anyone got a idea where replacement glass beds can be got within the UK? I like to have a backup one to swap out why a print cools an that.

I'll let you know as whatever it is is out for delivery today.

  15. I'm glad others are experiencing the same problems as me.

Also the app is effected, after a certain amount of time you get the "can not connect to xxxx..." Error message. It's like the printer WiFi card stops sending any information after a while.  No options to connect via ethernet sadly as the printer is too far from the router.

I now have my own solution.  I have installed a cheap (£30) webcam looking at the printer and have the power now via a Samsung smartthings power outlet so I can monitor the print reliably and also when I am remote.  I can also turn the power off with the ST outlet remotely.

@Bigbrit, what is the issue that you are experiencing? I noticed that you mentioned that your WiFi disconnects every so often. Is it completely unreachable by Cura and Cura Connect? Does the printer menu show it is disconnected?

It's the same issue that's been mentioned by others on here, the printer says it's connected on its front panel but cura connect and the app both cannot reach it.
