  1. I really love the autolevelling of my S5. But still, hasn't anyone made a plugin or something that makes the S5 (etc) skip the autolevelling, sometimes when printing a few very small parts after each other it wouldn't be needed and could save a big portion of the time.

  2. Hi

I noticed two things today. First I noticed that the actual buildplate on my S5 is quite a bit larger than the indicated bed size in Cura. Then I noticed the maximum practical bed size that Cura will allow for an item to be sliceable, is 326 x236 mm, vs the specified area 330 x 240 mm.

Did anyone try to expand the bed size in cura and use the extra space at the perimeter? If so, how much and how did it work out?

  3. Like you say One-at-a-time isn't available unless Extruder 2 is disabled. Hence, I have disabled extruder 2. ;)

I had missed to turn on the Special Modes selection of Setting print sequence manually. Now it works!
    Thanks!

That option, to turn on and off that setting and having it off as default, is a little bit over-engineered IMO. Once One-at-a-time is selected those menu options in the object list could just be un-greyed. And always be there but greyed in other cases. That will also help everyone find out the options is there, too.

Thanks for your help! Much appreciated!

You must have been lucky because prior to 5.7beta there has not been a way to adjust the print order in One-at-a-Time.  It's been a source of aggravation for a lot of people.

In 5.7beta, when you set the Print Sequence to One-at-a-Time a new setting comes up below it.

When "Set Print Sequence Manually" is enabled then select a model from the object list in the lower left corner of the work space and right click on it.  There will be two new options at the bottom of the right-click menu.  They are basically "Move it up" and "Move it down" controls.

I haven't played with it much, but it looks like it works.

I don't know how much fun it would be if you had 50 models on the build plate that you wanted in an exact order.  For the four I used in the example it was quick.

I have now downloaded and testet 5.7.0-beta.1

    The objects list is there.
But unfortunately I do not get these alternatives in the drop down menu inside the objects list.

  5. Hi

I print many parts in one go with the printer. Almost always I use "One at a time". I want to control in which order the items are printed, so I can optimize how many items I can fit onto the bed in one go.

This didn't use to be any problem, as Cura printed them in the order I had loaded or copied them.

But today I noticed in the version I am running now, Cura decided its own order regardless, and if I noted in what order Cura printed the items, and reordered them on the print bed and re-sliced, Cura re-ordered the print order, so now I cannot set the order in which the items are printed and place them on the print bed accordingly.

Or can I? and if so, how?

If this cannot be done anymore, it's a huge degradation for those of us who print many items in one go.

I am using the latest version, 5.6.0

  6. WHAT ON EARTH?

After I got the serial working I saw the lines

Restore complete, remove the recovery SD card and powercycle the printer.

And when I checked the printer screen, it says

    Firmware sucessfully installed

Pull me backwards, as we say in Swedish.
It seems obvious to me just hooking up the serial port got it to recover properly. Very strange.

Well, what do you know, finally my printer is back up. Thank you to those of you who have contributed with how-to-recover-info, especially @gr5

  7. EDIT: Never mind this post.

This was a little bit dangerous, I didn't notice I had the serial interface set to 5V, but the Olimex survived. Getting proper data now.

    ---

Ok, carrying on, hooked up the serial port at 115200 8N1 but I am only getting garbage, like I am at the wrong speed. Tried several other speeds, but no luck.

S5 R1 has a code name of 9051 so getting an img file with 9051 or R1 in the path or filename is wise.  So hopefully you figured how to get to the first post in this topic (go back to first page of results in this topic).  If you google "image recovery procedure S5 ultimaker" I think you can probably find the official directions.  here are some img files - not sure if they are still there.

DO NOT USE THESE ON NEWER S5 PRINTERS - ONLY R1 VERSION WHICH HAS ROBOT ON SIDE PANEL, NOT THE LARGE "U"

    S5R1 https://software.ultimaker.com/releases/firmware/9051/stable/6.2.2/um-restore-6.2.2-R1.img

    http://software.ultimaker.com/releases/firmware/9051/stable/5.7.3/um-restore-5.7.3-R1.img

I might have more links - certainly links that work - on my unbricking web page that I mention above.

Your hard drive (SSD) is probably corrupt and likely needs to be repartitioned and/or reformatted.  The newer recovery images do this automatically.  Again, my unbricking web page tells you which versions have this feature.

If you do the go tutgle search I mention earlier in this post you can find the latest images which will definitely repartition and reformat and then you can switch to an older img if you want.

Does those two recovery images contain the boot.scr file?
Is it just to insert the SD-card and turn the printer on to install the recovery image, or are any other measures required to install the recovery image?

    EDIT:
Ok, so I found the 6.1.1 recovery file.
    Here's my situation

While updating from 5.7.2 on my S5R1 the update got stuck at "2 minutes remaining".
Now, if I just turn the printer on, it displays the Ultimaker logo, then after a while shows a black screen, turn the light on and shows the Ultimaker logo again and gets stuck.

If I insert the recovery.img or the 5.7.3 recovery image, the same thing happens.

If I inser the 6.1.1 or 6.2.2 recovery images, the S5 first shows the Linux (penguin) logo for a while, then the Ultimaker logo, and then it pops back into the "installing firmare, 2 minutes remaining" screen and gets stuck there.

I'm a bit surprised here, I would have expected a recovery image to boot from the SD-card and install the recovery image.

Any advice on how to go on from here would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  9. It's the same problem over and over again, and Ultimaker doesn't seem to care at all about their expensive trash not even having a working WiFi connectivity.

Again today my S5 refuses connection with Cura, even though it shows up on the network and in the available printers list with the correct IP in settings, hitting Connect brings it up in Cura for a second and then it disappears again.

Extremely poor of Ultimaker they cannot fix this known issue!

to jump on this, this "confirm removal" is driving me mad. The printer is in a school so im not able to SSH stuff and really mess with it, but please god id love a feature in the firmware.

Every day after a print is done we remove the job asap and then have to sit waiting for the "confirm removal" feature before we can get the next job away. So essentially waiting for the bed to cool only to them immediately heat up again the second the confirm button is pressed. The printer is used during all working hours so the jobs are just lined up. Its a minor gripe but it would make my life a whole lot easier for sure.

Unfortunately Ultimaker machines have become really user unfriendly. This is just another example of that.

  11. Hi

My UM2+ does not reach correct Nozzle temp.

If I set it to 240°C it reaches 215°C. I checked the PT100 sensor and it measures ok, 190 ohms at 240°c. I also measured a reasonably correct resistance on the main board when the UM2 is turned off, so it does not seem to be a problem with the main board connector. If the sensor is disconnected with the UM2 is on it reports an error, as it should.

I have also calibrated the temp measure instrument used to double check the nozzle temp.

So, any ideas what is causing this problem?

    Thanks!

  12. Hadn't used my UM2+ since I got my S5 sometime ago.
But today I started it up again. Began with a factory reset to get rid of any changes I might have done and forgotten about.
Then levelled the bed and started a PLA print.
First thing I noticed was that it heated the nozzle to 240 C, even though PLA material is set to 210 C. I double checked that.
Any ideas of how this might have happened? Aborted and restarted the print several times. The temp was always set to 240 despite PLA Material setting is 210.
I also checked Printers --> Machine settings in Cura, no odd settings there.

I reloaded and re-selected material. No difference.
I checked the gcode, there are no temp-settting commands in the gcode.
  13. Hi

I am getting supports outside an object I am printing. Support towers straight up into open air, stops at about half the height of the object I am printing.

I turned the support setting "Use towers" off, and then 4 out of 6 towers disappeared, but 2 remains.

How come these unnecessary supports pops up, and how do I get rid of them?

Object designed in Fusion 360, printer is a UM S5

    Thanks.

  14. It seems I will need special nozzles, where can I find those? Or will a standard nozzle do for replacement?

I got a second hand S5 and it seems the print cores I got with it are worn out. And I have plenty of high quality more or less brand new nozzles from my UM2+ that I would be happy to use.
