  1. so.... a job from my library, printed a hundred times before, went though and seemed to be ok. Then i came back and printer had claimed it had finished the job and the bed had dropped however it was missing the last like 10/20 layers. But according to the printer it did the whole thing? what the hell is this, i just upgraded to the new S5 firmware so maybe related. 6hrs wasted today however. Can i show the log to anyone who could maybe tell me what is going on? im reluctant to run a overnight 12hr job incase it happens again.

    Cheers

  2. hi guys. Further to this, ive been in discussions with other users and they also agree that this feature would be of a great benefit. Not for the same reason as my own, but so that they can schedule a print to run during the evening when people in the household are in bed and dont have to sit with a printer while they are with the family.

Just a thought, seems like it would surely be quite easy to implement.

  3. further to this, the material station is frankly pathetic... almost every time it does a change over i lose the job and there is simply no recovery. For example today it changed over and the material didnt make it to the head but the printer started "printing" again. No matter what you do at that point its non-recoverable. Even if you pull the material out, the station then states "Material Empty" but the printer still attempts to print. You cant select to switch it over to a new spool, nothing. Honestly, the its an absolute disaster...

Even an option to pause the print, and then a button to click to "Change to Spool B" for example, that would be 100% better than "sorry but im going to continue with these spools anyways, whether its jammed or even if you like it or not". Im literally losing more jobs than i have ever had with any other printer.

  4. hi guys, i assume this is a variable line width issue? Cura 4 on the right, Cura 5 on the left. Same model. Cura 5 is leaving all sorts of seams where it didnt before and i assume from the preview it is the variable line width. Is there a way to tune this out of basically turn it off? i always want to work with the latest releases but not at the detriment of the model finish. I obviously dont understand this correctly as i cant find a way to fix this.

    Cheers

  5. The only use I have for my material station is holding a very limited selection of spools that actually physically fit in it. My regular spools sit outside it and feed in but like you when it retracts it's just spaghetti-city outside the machine, it's borderline totally useless to be fair. The delays it causes in the prints is simply unacceptable, it's been a real waste of money. Looked great in the adverts though, but it was an expensive mistake...

  6. Any chance of anything on this?

As much as I enjoy standing waiting for half an hour every other print, it's getting to the point that the machine is so frustrating that I am debating getting rid of it to save my sanity.

Surely an option such as "print aborted - skip cool down and retry?" would work.

Also at a nozzle probe failure. Ok so it fails, but why should I be forced to stand there like an idiot while it cools down only for me to immediately click retry. It's absolutely maddening. "remove part"? It never even started... If it's to stop damage to the machine then it's not going to help when I smash it to bits out of sheer frustration, which I have been tempted to do.

Hours and hours a week wasted on this.

I am having issues with printing the first layer while using 5.0.

Same. It's really messing up that initial layer and its obviously higher from the bed than it used to be for some reason.

  8. ABS.
The bed-facing surface is the surface on display as a finished product. Have tried all of the above and the finish requires us to do post-production to get it in a state we are happy with. With kapton there is no post-production, its ready to go straight off the bed.

Actually i havent tried Dimafix. I did on my U2+E and it was ok, but the cost was quite prohibitive for bulk work.

  9. This random thing is really really annoying. If i close Cura and then re-slice the file and then try to save to the factory again, it works.

This has been driving me crazy all week as i have had to go into every single model in our library to adjust out changes Cura 5.0 enforced on us which wrecked the print quality. So i have had to go into the models, make the changes, save to disk. Close Cura, re-open it and then save to factory. Like 50 times...

Im not one to hold back on progress, i understand that, but having errors like this below are awful. Im logged in etc, literally nothing else i can do but restart the program and re-slice and try again.

That looks like some over-extrusion on very short lines.  The longer ones look OK.

There is a new setting called "Flow Equalization Ratio" in the Speed settings.  I know you probably don't feel much like experimenting, but setting that to 0% might make a difference.

yes, that helped significantly, thanks for the tip.

i cant today as i dont have time to run the model but i will test that out tomorrow and report back.

  12. @GregValiant ive made some changes to the project and am running it again this morning. Several settings change when you open up the file created in 4.13 within 5.0.0. so ive reverted those settings back to what they were in 4.13 to see if that changes things back to how i need them.

  13. Because I've found that by leaving the job on the plate, when it cools over a long period it peels up the kapton tape with it, shortening the life of the kapton covering. If I remove a job immediately upon completion the tape remains firmly attached. Timing the job so I'm there at the time of completion would eliminate that, so I could schedule a 6hr job to start at 3am and then I'll be there in person at 9am to remove it.

Might be a niche market for this, I understand. Would just be a nice feature to implement.

    Cheers.

@Super_paulie I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with your printer. Is there a specific reason you need to print with filaments that are unable to fit in the material station? It makes me sad to hear you are not able to use it as you would have liked, and I would like to see where we can improve to make it a better experience.

Regarding the bed probing failure: The nozzles are heated to to prevent hard bits of plastic from influencing the probe result. A bit of oozing should not lead to a failed probe. Perhaps there is something else going on. If you would be able to provide the log files I'd be more than happy to have a look.

    Best regards,

    Jos

Hi Jos, i have the logs, which one would it be that you need? this is in regards to the nozzle probe failure which happens at least a few times a day. when it fails there is a small blob of material directly underneath the probe as it comes out of the nozzle on the first probe which them bombs out the second.

    thanks

If you are still looking for ideas for upcoming features, it would be extremely helpful to have a way to disable the Material Station's auto retract feature. This is one of those frustrating parts of Ultimaker firmware on the same level as not being able to skip cooldown due to a print core mismatch failure.

i agree. As i have to have my material outside of the material station (due to spool diameter) and feed it in, when it retracts fully out of the bowden tube its just a spaghetti junction that i need to re-wind back to the spool again. Id absolutely love it if it just retracted from the core and stood there ready.

Honestly, the list would be a mile long for potential ideas and "fixes" as this thing is so good and do bad in equal measures!
