Any substitutes for the 30mm fans on UM2 ?

I tried to replace mine (a lot of noise and vibration) and failed miserably, the fans never turned. I ordered these from digi-key , sunon MC30101VX-E01U-A99 those are 12vd. Since standard fans have 2 wire my guess is they are not pwm capable fans, though they are driven by pwm from the board.

I wonder if its cause from unsmoothed dc from mainboard ? , or those standard fans are special?

    Hi Marty,

I did change my fans for 40mm ones used on RepRap printers. Both need to be exactly the same make and model and need to support pwm.

The fact that the board is controlling it doesn't make it less needed to be supported by the fans as it changes the way current is used. (50% speed is not a constant 6V but 12V half of the time).

I did have to try a few different makes to find a working pair and unfortunately cannot tell you what they are (they were in a mixed box and dont have clear labels).

The good news is that you can order them online at fbrc8 if your in North America http://fbrc8.com/collections/ultimaker-2-spare-parts/products/model-cooling-fan-12vdc-0-1-a-x2

I thought all pwm fans had 4 wires, i was wrong. Then these from digi-key should work

OD3010-12HB5-ND. I guess some dc filtering is include in the fan driver circuit.

the third one is for the tachometer, not necessary here but it doesnt need to be connected to work.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
