go to machine settings in cura. One of the settings places 0,0 in the corner. The other method puts 0,0 in the center. Could that be related?

What do you mean by it off sets the dimensions?
There is something in the new Cura that autoscales it down if the model is too big for the printer, maybe that's the case? Or the model is in inches and imported in mm ?
