Y Axis Calibration

Having problems with the Y Axis and calibrating it. I have used the calibration tool and the two sides are within a mm of being parallel. When I move the extender it pushes fine, until I tighten down the pulley's. After I tighten down the pulley's it becomes more difficult to push the extruder that direction. The other direction pushes very easily.

I 've had some issues with belts slipping and tightening is making the motors work really hard.

Check that the end caps aren't too tight on the axis rods, preventing them from turning smoothly.

1) Instead of using the calibration tool, use your vision. Visually you can move your eye above the UM so that the belt and the bar line up. This way you can see misalignments to a higher accuracy than that tool. Or maybe I'm thinking of a different tool.

2) Maybe you are tightening the belt too much?

3) When printing, watch the Y belt. Does it twist back and forth in different directions when it changes directions? If so this means it is rubbing the wood wall. Fix this by moving it farther from the wall using washers under the plastic motor spacers or by moving the pulley on the motor shaft closer to the motor (it should be as close as possible without touching).

I've often thought it would be a good idea for UM to add some small slots in the walls in line with the rods and belts, to make it easier to align everything by sighting directly along the axes, rather than having to squint from a little bit off center.
