Ultimaker 2+ - Printing from USB Cura - Print nozzle just moves in circles

I am trying to "Print with USB" in Cura on my brand new 2+, and after i've prepared the model and started the print, the print head just endlessly moves in a circle and then a zig zag. The print bed doesn't lift up, and no filament is extruded. At first I assumed it was some kind of calibration because it seems to be running through a pattern, but I cancled it after it had done that for 5 minutes or so.

I've read online that printing from USB is not recommended, but this seems like a whole different issue. Can anyone direct me to an answer? Thanks.

Have you changed your GCode flavor from "Ultimaker 2" to "Marlin"? Otherwise USB printing won't work with the Ultimaker 2+.

That didn't seem to work. I am ok with saving to sd, it just seems strange that cura and um2+ don't play nice over usb out of the box. I have a friend who prints a lot who just saves to sd, is the normal workflow to avoid usb?

Sorry about my previous message, I was thinking you were using OctoPrint (which also uses the USB port, and hence also needs the gcode flavor changed).

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
